Oh those are gross.

The only thing that comes to my mind is 2 years ago, my cousin Jesse and I decided to go snowboarding. So we got up early, drove up the mountain.. blah blah blah.

Well we stopped at a McDonalds and we ordered our food, and he got an orange juice. We were eating, when he took a sip, and said it didn't taste right. I tasted it too - it tasted like Tang, and it was really bizzare. So we took it back up to the counter. We just wanted to get a new glass, since we thought the machine was low of syrup or something.

The manager comes out and we tell him our story. He takes the cup, removes the lid, AND TAKES A SIP OF MY COUSINS orange juice right in front of us. Both of us were trying to hard not to freak out, and we kept giving each other "the look" Well this guy told us it tasted just fine, and then he tried to hand back the same cup he took a drink of.

We ordered another soda in a new glass and took off. They didn't even want to consider a refund.

Gosh you guys ....after re reading what I had wrote I have to apoligize. It was not my intent to sound so cold about our waitresse's skin condition! As I am very compassionate when it comes to things like that..... I guess the point I was trying to make is that for it being a public place of eating where health conditions are stressed, she should've covered up.

Nancy.....I had to giggle about your experience! That must've been a hoot to have been there!!!

Not only are restaurants bad, but have you ever checked your local grocery store?!?!? I mean actually looked "behind the scene"?? :new_shocked:
default_wacko.png
: I worked at a big "chain" grocery store for six years during my late teens/early twenties and I used to work in the back doing Management stuff. Well, one day, one of the butchers told me to open the freezer door where the ice cream was stocked. When I opened the freezer door, there leaning up against the ice cream was a full white tail DEER frozen solid standing there leaning on the ice cream. :new_shocked: The butcher had hunted that same deer earlier that morning and wanted to keep it "fresh" for taxi-dermy (sp?). I guess I shouldn't admit that the deer's head is now hanging in my parent's den.

: (Long story how that came about) Oh the stories I could tell of what actually goes on in your local super market.

I didnt' think you sounded cold and I suffer from a skin condition. It's a legitimate complaint. I would never condsider serving to the public with what I got. It's bad enough working in an office with it  I mean flakes go everywhere at times..yah graphic I know, but my point is, you don't want it flying in your food!! EWWWWWW

Okay, a recent one from me. Very busy one day, out running errands with hubby, so we were starved and decided to stop at Taco Bell. Ordered my usual chalupas, and at the end of the first one, I saw a long hair with what appeared to be mouse doo connected to it. After I calmed the gag reflex, and decided I maybe could hold down my food for a couple more minutes, I showed the waitress, then she took me to the counter to speak with the manager. They first said it was my own hair, (no mention of the mouse doo), and I politely pointed out it was a black hair, and I am blonde. Also, I have short hair, and this was a long hair. After much surliness from the manager, she finally said I could have another, or my meal was free whichever I wanted. Well, I told her I doubted what I had already eaten was going to stay down, so why would I want another? It was a couple of days before I could eat anything, even what I prepared at home. The funny thing is that about a week before that, I had eaten a taco at another Taco Bell, got the shell hung in my throat and nearly choked to death. Don't frequent Taco Bell's much anymore!

I appreciate that Pandora! Thanks for understanding. The times that we have been back to the restaurant the waitress seems to have it under control as I've not seen it as bad as it was that one time.

JustUs....I've gotten food poisoning twice at Taco Bell in town...that pretty much put a lid on that food chain as far as I'm concerned.

:smileypuke: Wow!---those are some pretty bad experiences. I have a bad dining experience also. We try not to eat fast food, but some days being as busy as we, are we order it---usually chinese. We have two chinese restaurants here to choose from. We chose 'restaurant A' as i'll call it. We didn't order anything fancy--think I had crispy pepper salt prawns, and hubby had chow mein and something else. We sat down to eat and catch up on an episode of CSI, when I hear hubby gagging and run towards the bathroom. I wondered what was so wrong that made his stomach turn inside out. He finished up and came back out only to tell me that he had a rather long jet black hair halfway down his throat--that he slowly pulled back out! :smileypuke: . Needless to say he didn't finish his dinner. I made something instead, but his appetite still wasn't up to par----can't say I blame him

: .

We've also eaten at 'restaurant B', and I have found black hair in my food---(I didn't yack though

: ). I was thoroughly grossed out though, and couldn't eat for the rest of the evening. All in all, I think I may stay away from restaurants for a while. The very thought of what can, and does go on behind the scenes of food preperation makes me go EWWW! , EWWWW!, EWWW!.

A friend was telling me yesterday about a trip to the local Dairy Queen to get a blizzard - she always had them add cherried to hers -- the kids dishing it up were laughing and joking about the bugs in the cherries and nuts - they made hers up and brought it to her - she said "do you think I look stupid" and told them she did not want it nor wanted her money back. She went directly to the health department who sent out inspector immediately - they closed them down.

There was a program on 20/20 or 60 minutes (one of those news segments) about what waiters/chefs/restaurants to do the food -- makes you want to never eat anything you did not grow at home and cook yourself from scratch!

I have worked in the food industry for most of my working years.

My first food related job was at a bakery ( I worked there for ten years. ) With in the first two months I witnessed allot. The first thing - the guys spilled a huge vat of muffin mix on the floor. The manager told them to scrape it up off the floor and back in to the vat - or bowl. ( This was a "bowl" big enough that I could have sat in. ) Another incident that happened was a customer complaining about a cigarette but they found in their muffin.

More recently, about three years ago - my husband and I stopped at Taco Bell. I love their Mexican pizza's and have eaten them for years. I took one bite and almost gagged, I didn't eat the rest. :smileypuke: After that we stopped at Wal-Mart and went to the photo department to pick up some pics. For some reason Taco Bell ( which is across the street ) came up. The gal said oh no - don't go there to eat!! She was whispering so I no she was in fear of loosing her job, she even admitted as much. Any way - the most I could get out of her was that she had developed some pictures that the EMPLOYEES ( remember - most are kids ) dropped off and the things she saw in those pictures were disgusting. More or less doing gross things with the food involved. :new_shocked:

Unfortunately you can never be sure of any thing you are purchasing to eat - whether it be a fast food joint, restaurant or supper club. Disturbing to say the least.

: I was in my 20's and went to spend the weekend with her. When we woke up in the morning there was no power due to a power outage. She greeted me with a cup of coffee...she made on a camping stove. I thought the odd taste of the coffee was due to it being perculated (the old fashion way) I was almost done with the first cup when I realized "where did she get the water" ?! She was on a well...no power no water. "Grandma where did you get the water??" Oh, she was so proud of herself....out of the rain barrell she said. EWWWWW...the day before I was gazing into the...nasty buggy water and she even put old motor oil in it to discourage mosquitos. She said she scooped out the oil to get to get to the water

i havnt read all the replies because of my slow( dial up) computer..... but about 10 yrs ago i was having a great.." ulster fry " in a cafe in northern ireland...
