Our foster daughter, Jessica, is now 36 years old. She lived with us for 5 years and we have continued to be her "second parents" even after she returned to her bio-mom. She married, has three beautiful children (ages 11, 13, 14.) All were C-sections... And we are an extra set of grand parents for them. She divorced and has remarried a great fellow.

Last November she discovered she had pre-cancerous cells on her cervix. The doctor and she decided she might as well have a hysterectomy. (It had to be the cut her open type because of her c-sections)

That happened on Dec. 27.....She bounced up and was doing good....went home in 24 hours.......On Dec. 29 the surgeon instructed that her staples be removed......IT HAS BEEN ALL DOWN HILL SINCE THEN.

Her incision opened up ...was "taped" closed, but it's healing together horribly and unevenly. I drove over (150 miles) last Monday and came home Thursday afternoon (yesterday) because her mom had to leave Sunday........Everyone is asking why were her staples removed so SOON???

One of her doctors shrugged it off and said that this "sometimes happens"......... Her "wound specialist" is even surprised her staples didn't stay in for 5 days!

I came home very frustrated because I couldn't do more for her but drive her to doctor appts....(her husband had to go back to work)......Make sure everyone was being fed, and hold a whip over her kids' to CLEAN THE KITCHEN AND BATHROOM!!!

Sorry........but I can't believe she has to go through all sorts of extra appointments and care AND PAIN, that would have been totally unnecessary because of that one stupid decision....She'd be up and around by now! Instead she's limited in how she can move, what she can do......etc. I AM peeved.

I'm so sorry she is going through this, MA, I can't even imagine. My mom had a cancer scare last year, and she had surgery to remove two large benign masses attached to her ovaries; her stitches were in at least a week after her surgery, which I'm sure was quite similar to your daughter's. I can't even imagine removing sutures or staples the same week as the surgery. I hope she finds a doctor on her side to help her heal up. Prayers.

She had the staples out in two days? I used to be a nurse and 7-10 days rings a bell with me. But don't hold me to that as its been a LONG time since I worked. You have every right to be peeved! Hope she feels better soon. It is good that you were able to help.

She's getting something called a "wound vac" tomorrow afternoon....I'm driving back over the mountain in the morning to take her to the appointment. Her husband, Gib, has to work and can't break away. Not sure if I'll stay over one night or two....

I would be peeved too , Dont think Ive ever heard of staples or stitches having been removed after two days.

I hope she is starting to feel better

Home again now.....Her wound vac is in.....calling it her "purr box", lol. Interestingly, this nurse/wound specialist, who hadn't seen her before agreed that the staples were taken out too soon.......She has another appt this afternoon, but her husband was able to go with her and one of our dogs is not doing well, so I bowed out and came home.

I called it a "purr box" because of the sound it makes....It also gurgles, then when a bit of wound garbage gets sucked out, it FARTS! It's all brand new to me....and of course to Jess also, who is handling it like a CHAMP.

She reported that the second appointment with the wound vac was uneventful and all went smoothly.....but her incision is still healing very unevenly. But I'm glad her husband went this time because BOTH wound specialists were there, so he could meet both.

UPDATE --- Jessica's wound vac was removed last Friday. Her wound is healing from the inside out, like they wanted. But the outer part is still uneven, so they are back to packing and taping. On a good note, she is obviously feeling better and being more mobile.

Glad to hear she is on the mend! What an ordeal for her to have to go through.
