I know many folks on the East coast and sure wish I could be there to help- sending prayers for each and every one of you and yours to safely get through this storm- the winds and the flooding which is sure to come!!!

I know Forum member zoey (Lea in NJ) has battened down the hatches. She informed me the power company called and may be cutting the power, and that the winds are picking up there now. Her Dad had a mandatory evacuation order where he is about an hour from her and will be coming to her place to 'hole up' til this blows over.

BE SAFE everyone, and please check in or if you know how folks are doing or if someone needs anything...

We are having terrible winds and over 7 inches of rain so far, power is flickering. The worse for us should be between 12 and 5 tonight. Animals all in the barns, safe and eating hay. I think we'll get through it ok Karen, Corapeake, NC

We're just getting the beginning rain for the past few hours hard rain not alot of wind yet we are in SW NJ still bracing for the big part over night tonight

Prayers that everyone and all the animals comes through this OK.

Thanks for starting the thread Laurie. Winds are picking up. We are expecting 50 and some areas 70 mpg winds. And lots of rain. We are also watcing for a tornado. Everything is tied down and we are waiting....

Have to conserve the energy in case power goes out. Just wanted to fill everyone in. Its suppose to be bad tonight into Sunday.

Please pray. My father is with me now and my sister refuses to leave. Even though its a mandatory evacuation. And I havent heard from her in 2 hrs. I am very upset. They said if you dont leave put your name and SS in your shoe so we can identify you. And she still did not leave!!!!

So please pray for us and everyone in this storm. It means a lot to know I have a support system.

PS the horses safe for now. I have 2 stalls open. Contact me if you need a stall.

Almost 4 PM here in Delaware-so far not too bad.Only big trees are in front yard away from horses so no danger from falling limbs.Horses all tucked in barn and will head down to feed and check water in about 90 minutes.Stressed but it may not be too bad.We still have power, but according to local news many folks are out.Praying for all in the path of Irene.thinking about the wild ponies in NC and VA&MD.They have surivived many storms-must be real smart critters. Will check in later when able.

Checking in, SE PA. scared. Tornado reported in Newark Delaware heading to NJ. Newark Delaware is not all that far from us. We are getting a lot of rain. this thing is supposed to really whip us between midnight and 8 am. Too many trees around my house. No sleeping tonight. Tornados after dark...

Man I hope we get through tonight ok. Check in later... signing off.

Checking in from Southern Maryland. Just had a tornado touch down in neighboring county. What else do we need after our first earthquake on Tuesday?

We've had driving rain and high winds since about 8am although 2pm is really when it picked up and trees were swaying terribly. Tonight its gotten worse as Irene passes through on her way to Ocean City.

Inside my brick house it sounds like a frieght train out there. Worried more about our farm roads and maybe a tree or two that may land on a fence.

Power hasn't been lost totally but flicks off and on periodically and the Dish/Satellite has driven me crazy the last two hours loosing its signal due to the high winds.

I'm about to put my rainsuite on and jump on the polaris to go scout around the fencelines and make sure everything is okay.

Thoughtful post and I too wish the best to all those Irene is visiting that they escape with no damages - hope everyone stays safe. I hope there are no surprises at daylight - -

Hope everyone is ok...........just heard on the tv that 9 people have died OMG and its heading to new york

sending well wishes and praying to everyone

Replying while we still have power. Expect it to go anytime and join the 200,000 others in CT without power. Rain is coming down at 1.5-2" per hour and will continue most of the day. Wish I could send some to TX & OK!!! Our pond is very full and the outlet stream is a raging torrent. Wind just started and will continue for several hours. We could lose trees. Horses are snug in their timber frame barn, although 5 of them are not confined to stalls. All 5 were dry this morning. (They have 2 12X12 stalls and a huge overhang area split in 2 areas). Will not have to fill outdoor tubs for days!

Lots of roads are closed, they are telling everyone to stay put, and there has been one fatality so far.

Stay safe everyone!!

Checking in from SE PA. We made it through the night. Not much sleep, Power came back on about an hour ago.

:yeah

Thankful here for all the little things, we made it through in decent shape. Lots of clean up to do, but everybody is ok. Still have a ton of wind, so not out of the woods yet, but the long dark scary stormy night is over for the most part, lets just hope the trees and all our corn stays up.

Prayers to all the rest of you that you all make it out of the storm ok.

My mom lives down the beach in Delaware. She told me she was going to stay with a friend so we didn't worry about her. I found out in the middle of the storm last night that didn't go to the friends house and she was riding the storm out in her house by herself. A tornado touched down about a mile from her house.

She is ok this morning , she just checked in. Her radio and television wasn't working because her electric was out and she didn't have batteries for her radio either. go figure. She wasn't even aware of how close that tornado was, whew, close one..

.

Checking in from western Massachusetts. Wind is picking up. Rain is on and off very hard. They say the center of the storm is going to be here around 2PM. All is well so far. Fingers crossed.

Be safe everyone

Praying that everyone remains safe. I hope the wild horses on the island/beach areas make it.

Everything went fine here (north of Richmond, s/w of DC). Worst that happened was we had to move Derby because our pony didn't want to let him in the run in shed... then screamed his head off to/for him when we moved him. It's a case of the same type of personality clashing when it comes to Derby and Sundance.

Nothing else worth mentioning happened due to the storm.

HOWEVER, in the late morning (long before any winds) our front storm door (real nice / fancy Pella door) shattered! It looked like the glass turned into a billion pieces of rock salt. No winds then, no one was going in or out of it, or even touching it, when it happened. I guess it was from the earthquake. I hadn't noticed it having any cracks (ever) and our other storm doors (bought / installed at the same time) are fine. Have a HUGE not safety glass picture window in our living room and praying nothing compromised it during the quake, or any any of or massive fish tanks. Just worrying about messes, but compared to what some people are worried with related both to the earthquake and the storm, we for sure are very lucky.

Worrying about forum members that may have any red maple trees around... they kill horses if eaten when the leaf is wilted, which is not the same as when they fall off in the fall. If you have any downed limbs or leaves in your pastures or paddocks, do all you can to confirm you're not looking at red maple leaves (which are only red in the fall).

Really hoping our forum family came through Irene without anything bad happening.

I talked to Cheryl Powell (4mymirage) and they are all fine, lots of trees and limbs everywhere, no power, lots of flooding but all people and horses are just fine. Now the clean up begins as we all leave a week from Monday for Nationals.

Got a text from Zoey (Lea in NJ) this morning- they have no power and dont know when it'll be on. They have flooding and branches down but not sure exactly how much, if any, serious damage. They and the horses are all ok.

so happy to hear everyone is OK! We are fine as well. Lost power last night at 10, it just came back on. All horses are fine, we didn't lose any run in sheds which was a blessing. Only damage we had was some limbs on fences, all cleaned up, still have some limbs to clean out of paddocks but very gratful we are fine. Now that power is back on I'll go cook something for us to eat since we've been outside cleaning for the last four hours and have worked up a mighty hunger.

Minimal damage here in Delaware.1 shutter blown off, lots of water in hearth from leaking chimney(stayed up last night and emptied pots and bowls)1 small leak over den sofa(new roof in March-will call to have them come repair it&waterproof chimney) All horses safe and dry in sturdy old dairy barn-they are so glad to be out today.Sheep are all well and out grazing today.Still very windy here.Back to the barn to finish chores-had to take a break and get some breakfast after all critters were fed.We still have power-over 130,000 here in southern Delaware are without.Tornado hit 17? homes about 15 miles south of here.Hoping all stay safe.
