Hi -- A few years ago, I stumbled across a site or two that discussed "tiger appaloosas." As I recall, they are leopard, but have the distinction of having semi-colored lower legs, with an inverted "V" of white just above the hoof. I seem to remember them being associated with the originals in the US, from the Palouse Valley. Anybody know anymore on this? I'd love to find those sites again. I've googled all I could think of to come up with them, but no luck. Anybody? Much appreciated! -- karen

Wow -- Very informative sites........thanks for straightening me out. I wonder where I got the inverted V above the hooves thing? Anyone know what that's about? (aside from my being nuts) You know, when you read & read & read, sometimes things blur in memory. Thanks so much, Qtrrae.

What makes the tiger appaloosas distinct is that they are a multi gaited horse. You might be thinking of some of Sheila's posts on the Appaloosa Project about appaloosas in general although not talking about white triangles but dark..

Ex.

"Lightning marks on Appaloosas with no expression of non-Appaloosa white

leg markings start above the coronet area, and are concentrated on the

sides of the cannons, leaving the front and back pigmented at low

levels of expression. At higher levels of expression, the lightning

marks "wrap around" the entire cannons, but leave the dark triangles on

the fronts of the coronets, and also tend to leave dark patches on the

fronts knees, backs of hocks and front/back of fetlock joints."

I love it when the topic of Tiger Horses comes into play...what is so distinct about them is they are APPALOOSA which is my favorite pattern, plus being a GAITED horse!!! Very rare to find...and expensive, though I did come across one site in particular that had a drop dead gorgeous leopard appy filly for just 2 grand!!!

I guarantee when I get a place of my own, I will be searching to bring in a gorgeous Tiger Horse =)

You can simply type in "tiger horse" in your search bar and lots of sites will come up!
