Well, Tinker my 1 yr old boxer has developed a lump over the last several weeks on his side.

I though at first it was a sore from maybe the mini's biting him as he plays with Navajo and Navie has bit him in the past. I doctored it and it seemed to get better then it started growing and is now 1" across and perfectly round and raw...he keeps licking it. So I take him to the vet who neutered him last year and he measured it to and said well it is either non CA or Cancer and will have to schedule a biopsy and have it removed and send it to KU vet. He also said that it is very normal for Boxers & Boston Terriers to get lumps on them. That this happens all the time with those particular breed :DOH! Anyone have their Boxers have this happening? Please let me know! He is my buddy since I had to put Chasey to sleep almost a year ago and the thought of losing another is heartbreaking...THX JUDY

Last year Jerry's old dog Devin had one. It was a little lump on the shoulder that grew so fast I couldn't believe it got so huge. We had the surgery and it was sent off and came back not cancerous. The surgery went well but recovery for Devin was difficult as he was an old dog. Now he has two of them. One on the other shoulder and another one by the hip and they are growing. I am not putting him through another surgery. He's almost 14 and he is not complaining about it so as long as he is comfortable I'm going to leave him alone. Your guy is young and should have no problem springing back into action so good luck and try not to worry.

When my Boxer was younger not quite a year old, she had what the vet called a button cyst. It was growing and it would bleed. They did surgery on her and removed it and she was good to go. She also has what they call lipoma pockets...not "lymphoma") which are just fatty pockets that are under her skin. Some Boxers get this too but mainly older than what your Tinker is. I hope it's just a cyst and nothing more. My Boxer girl is 7 years old now.

That is what it looks like a button and perfectly round!

Keeping you and Tinker in my thoughts and prayers. Cheyenne's (Sterling's) information sounds very promising!

I hope it not cancerous! Yes, Boxers and Bostons are both prone to this. So far, my Boston who is 6 years, has not gotten any, and I have had one Boxer (male) that we had to have put to sleep just 4 days before his 5th Birthday, due to Lymphome. He never had any "lumps" up until the time he dies. Our next Boxer (female) lived to nearly 11 years, and she never had any either. We took a rescure Boxer puppy in and she was I think about 6 months, and she DID have a lump on her back leg. The vet felt it was not cancerous, and removed it at the time we had her spayed before placing her. They tested the lump, and it was not cancer. Then we had another Boxer girl for about a year and a half...we sold her as she was chasing my horses, but she never had any lumps, and so far, neither does our current Boxer girl Abby, but she is only 8 months right now.

I would think he's awfully young to be developing cancer, though I know boxers seem to be more prone to it. Knock on wood, I'm on my 3rd & 4th boxers right now and no one has had it YET.

If it stays raw and/or gets scraped and bleeds profusely, it may be a hematoma. My 4 year old boxer had one on the side of his paw, and he constantly re-opened it up for weeks as soon as it would start to heal. I can't count how many times I had to clean up his polka-dot blood spots all over the carpet. We just kept it clean as possible and it went away on its own. But these seem to be small, perfectly round like you describe, and raised.

I bet you could find a lot of boxer people talking about the specifics of this (and find pics in the gallery) if you go to the forum on www.boxerworld.com

My vet called me this evening and he helped me with Chasey my Aussie and all his health issues and he even donated some money to KU vet school in his name. He wanted to reassure me about this and said it is very common. He said sometimes they will regress and disappear and to watch it for the w/e and call him the first of the week. He feels we need to leave it alone for now. He did say that he is way to young to have it be a cancer. Thx all of you for your help and I am going to research more about Boxers that is for sure!

Yep, and do you see the little flashy fawn Boxer pup in the upper right side of their banner on their main page?? That's my Boxer!! That's our boy Baron that died just days before his 5th Birthday!

HE was the reason we fell so head over heels in love with the breed!

Mona, then I've "known" your puppy for years! He was a cutie. Your time with him was much too short; I hate to hear that.

I used to be on Boxerworld's forum a lot...almost as much as I am on this one!

Well here are the originals, one is the one they used. These were taken in my niece's baby walker just after I got Baron home. I just couldn't resist putting him in there with his "baby toys".

Here he was "grown up".

He also won/tied for second in a *I THINK* it was called "Mr Boxerword" photo contest, but I cannot find the link to it on that site anymore. I believe it was the photo of him in the walker that he won with, and then she asked me for permission to use it in that banner. I went to the Boxerworld site now, and it's all changed and all I can find are photo galleries, but not the contests. Do you know anything about those? They were from years back!

Awww, what a good sport he was...giving you that happy face shot while in a baby walker! Who knew?

I don't remember specific contests right now, that would have been fun to see too.

Mona those pics of him in the baby walker are too cute!!!

I will be keeping Tinker in my thoughts and prayers that all turns out good. It doesn't take long for these guys to worm their way right into the middle of our hearts.

Well, I had Tink in for an aspiration of his little sore and it is non CA
default_laugh.png
The vet said to leave it unless it gets bigger and bothers him. it is starting to shrink a little and the vet sometimes that happens too, so now if I can get him to quit being a gas we should have everything licked (so to speak-

So glad it's nothing. My lab is covered in lumps...mostly fatty tumors and a couple of other lumpies (can't remember their names, they remind you of a wart or something). I've had them all checked over the years. He did have mast cell cancer twice but those lumps look/feel totally different than the fatty ones.

I'm always happy to read good news! Yeah Go Tinker!
