I called my local Tractor Supply Feed Co. early this morning and they knew nothing at all about any problems with the Platform feed and this was the first they heard of it.

So they made some calls to see what was going on and they were told that as of right now, the problem with the feed is an isolated incident with one farm and possibly one other farm, (pending) and is still under investigation and there is no proof at the moment that the feed is even involved.

However, they are working on this situation very aggressively and hope to find an answer very soon.

The manager of the local store here has said that this is a very good feed that has become very popular but for now, has advised me NOT to continue to feed it and take any chances until further information is made available and they will be happy to reimburse my money. They told me to come back in today with or without my Platform bags and receive a total refund. They have my phone number and said they will call me as soon as they know anything for sure about what is going on.

They are waiting for instructions from Platform to see if this should be pulled from the shelves or not. As of now, they are not doing so until they know there is in fact some problem.

Not to cause another debate. Just relaying what I have been told from the TSC dealer here. This is just for your information.

Just remember companies do take there time to pull things off the shelve.

Always best to be careful when it comes to our little minis.

: But we need to keep in mind that the problem with those horses, may not be caused by the grain. Because we are not there to see how things are setup, or stored. Not flaming or trying to cause a problem, I have had my fair share of bad grain from different venders, but i was lucky to actually see that the grain was bad and tossed it out before horses got any of it. And if people decided to stop feeding it, to remember to wean them off of it.. dont do it cold turkey.

Marty, thank you for checking this out and passing on the information. We will all be waiting to hear more.

One thing to keep in mind, is that our feeds are milled all over the country. Purina has mills everywhere.

*IF* this incident is feed related, it is likely coming from one mill only and would not involve other mills at all. Just something to keep in mind. This is probably an isolated occurance and would not affect most that use this feed.

I am lost here, what is wrong with the feeds or what happen at this farm. More

information Please. We tried it, but only one bag. We will stay with our Safe Choice

and Omelene. But really would like more information?

Please

Vicky

There was another national scare not too many months ago, and it turned out they had sprayed pesticide in the feed bunker without realizing how deadly it would be to horses.

"They" being the farm that ended up with 20+ dead animals.

The feed was blamed for almost a week before the toxicology reports came back.

I was just at my TSC during lunch, picking up food.

The manager made 2 different phone calls with me in there and he couldn't find anyone who knew a thing. But he is still checking and I have emails in to Corporate for both TSC and Platform.

I still bought the Miniature Feed,,,,,like I said, mine are doing so well, not changing until someone says it is the food. Will let you know if I hear any more.

This is what I just received from Corporate at TSC.

"Please know that we are looking

into this right now with the vendor and we are handling accordingly."

What ever that means. My guess, being careful, and they need be. They will get back with me.

You know this just makes me so upset.but it could happen to any feed or even the food we eat.you just never know I really think it could be something else.please dont worry yourself sick over this.just take a breath.if your horses, are acting fine and you have been feeding it for sometime now, dont worry.down here we had a really bad spell with some feed, and it was the kind of feed I was useing drove me nuts, but come to find out it was something else not the feed.I go by my gut feeling on anything.but if you feel you dont want to feed your horses the same feed there on now then dont you will be much happier, dont stress.Im hopeing this will pass  Its a darn same to put people in fear of something.

I called the Platform office this AM and said I had heard there maybe a prob with thier mini/pony feed. I was put in hold and when the operator returned she said they had not heard anything about a problem. So now they have "heard" about the possible prob from me. They told me to contact the store where i got it if I was worried.

Ok....I just got home from work and I have several e-mails from friends that know I feed Platform Mini.

I called my feed store and asked him if he's heard anything, and he hadn't so we called Purina (1800-331-4143 ) and was advised that they were looking into the 'rumors' that Platform Mini was responsible for the death of a horse.

There could be many factors involved , and I certainly hope that if this is a hoax , the culprits are identified and 'strung up' ......

I've been feeding the Platform for over a month now and have had nothing but good results. The energy levels of the horses are great.....they run and play , and have had no loose stools, their eyes are bright and coats looks better than ever.

I finally found a feed that I like...Oh say it ain't so

FYI Farnum does not make any of their products. They create and formulate the products, but manufacturing is done elsewhere.

1-800-234-2269 Just talked to Mollie at Farnum. Farnum is aware of this "claim" that seemed to originate in Michigan, both Purina (since they mill the feed) and Farnum are "running tests" on the product to determine if there is a problem. So far there seems to be no validity to this claim and there are too many factors to consider before blaming the feed.

Does anyone here know exactly which farm this happened to?

Anyone feeding this feed to your horses beware. I have myself lost two horses with suspect of this feed causing the deaths. My vet has had 5 horses total , all from different farms. They all had the same symptoms , diarrhea, weight loss, listlessness, loss of appetite and death. Does not respond to antibiotics. The only common factor has been the feed. I know of the other horses from different farms and areas that are having similar problems. Purina reps are in contact with my vets office. I have pulled this feed from my remaining horse . I know that the TSC store near me has refused to sell this feed as of today.

Mad for Minis,

Please let us know about the other minis at your vets office. This is very serious to all the people on

this forum. I would also like to say I am so sorry your lost of your minis. My heart goes out to you.

I think this reply should be on new topic, being some might not come back to read.......... :new_shocked:

It sounds like Martys TSC dealer is a stand up guy! He [or She ] should get our support for doing the right thing. just a thought to stirr the pot If 5 otherwise unrelated horses are ill and all seem to use the same vet could that have some conection? posibly a bad lot of meds? Mine just got there shots, so this came to mind. DR.

Mad for Minis, where do you live, I am im Michigan and get my feed from the Fremont Tractor Supply, I have had my two babies on it for about two weeks now, but have stopped giving it to them, they did not have loose stools, and are very active, I was giving them half of the regular feed I get from another feed store and half mini food, so it was easy to stop the mini food. The foals were the only ones on that feed, I do hope they find the source so we can start using it again.

Thanks

Jan

I had bought my feed from the Lapeer TSC store but my breeder is from Grand Rapids and has people over there with the same problems. My babies were just being switched over to this new feed , they weren't on it totally yet. As for maybe being the vet had bad meds , it is not likely. My second one went to MSU for treatment to no avail. They were only treated after the diarrhea started.
