Shelley
Thanks Shelley, the dogs and their training is a big part of our life as are our horses, I am looking forward to retirement so I can spend more time with all the animals (5 years to go ) :bgrin

Yvonne those are awesome!!! Thanks for posting and sharing! I just love to watch working dogs and how they so enjoy their jobs. Do you find that one breed in your training does better than another breed? Like in these pics I see water dogs....am I correct in assuming that I see a Retiever and Labs? Do you see a lot of injries related to water sports?

Hubby and I are interested in going next into tracking with Lakota...she has a nose on her :new_shocked: , and working one on one appeals to me. If we can get her certified I'd like to do some search and rescue.

I also have to mention...that first pic of that pond...the colors are beautiful! Does it hold minerals to make it that color?

You go girl, sounds like you love what you can do... :aktion033:

Thanks for sharing  More More

That pond is an old quarry so yes there are minerals in it, it is owned by the conservation authority and they permit our dog club to hold our trials there plus we are allowed to train there 2 days a week. Yes you are correct you see a golden retriever - my Torch and the rest are black labs that come here for training. No we don't see a lot of injuries in the water, I can only remember one where some louts had thrown a beer bottle in the water and the dog cut it's foot on it. Our dogs are pretty fit though and if you condition them properly they are much more likely to avoid injury. We warm them up with obedience before we work them much like the horses their condition has to be maintained :bgrin I'll get off my soapbox now  Too bad you aren't closer we are holding a tracking seminar at our farm next month on October 27th. A well respected judge and trainer is coming to teach the elements of tracking.

Thanks for the photos! They are pretty cool looking. And lovely dogs! Looks like they are having fun working.

Wonderful! My yellow Lab Luna is a natural and I took her to our first training session where she wowed them!

But we opted to move North and she became our lake retireving dog and loves it.

Her dad was duck hunting champ and mom goose hunting champ and your pictures are awesome, bringing me back to where I should have let Luna go.

I am glad you enjoyed them Maxine but you know the dogs don't care about competitions they just love to spend time with their people and if you hunt with Luna that is better than any trial to them :bgrin I started with the trials back in the early 80's and that led me to getting my hunting licence, I figured if I was going to compete in retriever trials I better know something about what they were bred for :bgrin The essence of it all to me is spending time in the outdoors with my furry friends, whether they be canine or equine, it brings such peace to my soul and I am never happier than when I am doing that :bgrin

No problem Kathryn I'll let you know, if this one goes as well as I think we will probably hold one in the spring. The instructor is Marie Babin and she has been teaching, competing and judging tracking for a long time.

No I don't usually attend the conventions and I have toyed with the thought of attending Nationals for a couple of years now, but I just don't have anyone to watch the farm. Last year my neighbor did it....but I don't know how often I can call on her for a long away period.

I know the people going to your tracking seminar will have a blast!
