Thank you to everyone who submitted photos for my educational book about training minis for jumping, hunter and halter obstacle!! It was a lot of work, but a LOT of fun!!! And its finally finished!!

The title is

Training Miniature Performance Horses: A Comprehensive Guide on Hunter, Jumper, and Halter Obstacle

and it is available at www.smallhorse.com.

I'd love to hear any feedback on the book! :aktion033:

Huge congratulations. That's a big accomplishment. I can't wait to see it.

Congrats, Jennifer !!!

You are the reason I have one of the nicest hunters in the miniature world, Sting, and you better believe I'll be buying several copies of your book. We spent a weekend at Patti's in April and bought 3 more performance horses from her. I can not thank you enough for replying to my post last October when I was searching for a nice performance horse that would "get me started" in the mini show world.

Hi,

Congratulations on getting your book published!

We have needed a book that is specific to the miniature horse for performance classes. The funny thing is that I just purchased one on ebay and hadn't read this post prior so I was surprised when I read about it here. . My daughter and I both love showing our miniatures and have been looking for some tips etc. on showing. I'm sure that if you continue to put your book on ebay or other horse sites you will get a good response, best of luck. Are you planning on publishing another one? Let us know, I would love one on selecting a halter horse, conditioning, feeding and showing tips.

Wow... I didn't know it was on ebay already. I just got my first copy in the mail a few days ago! Yes, there is a strong demand for a GOOD book on halter.

I saw the ad in the latest AMHA World, ordered it from http://www.smallhorse.com and it got here already! I find it to be very interesting and useful. I plan to keep it handy as a reference while I train our minis.

I did have one question: The book mentions using a stud chain under the chin for control, but doesn't indicate if minis can be shown that way. I have not found this mentioned in any of the rule books either. Is it allowed in any of these classes?

I also noted that AMHA and AMHR rules were mentioned in various places, but there was no mention of Pinto rules. There are a lot of us who show our minis at Pinto shows where the performance classes are very popular. The rules are quite different though in terms of age: there is no lower age limit for halter obstacle (called trail-in-hand) and 2 year olds can be shown in hunter and jumper. You can get more info on Pinto at http://www.pinto.org. While I wouldn't show a 2 year old in the jumping classes, our current 2 year old filly was shown in the Pinto trail classes last year and earned quite a few national points toward her Pinto Register of Merit in Trail.

Congratulations on "Training Miniature Performance Horses." I look forward to reading it.

I run a small publishing house. Drop me a lne if you ever want to talk books.

I recommend Dan Poynter's books to all niche authors for marketing ideas. See www.parapublishing.com

Thank you for the responce! Yes, a stud chain can be used in competition. Most show halters use chains anyways.

That is a great idea to add Pinto rules! Thank you!

Jennifer,

Your book is FANTASTIC !! I ordered extra copies to hand out at our meeting this weekend.

Several of our members are just getting started in hunter, jumper and halter obstacle.

All of your hard work certainly paid off !
