What gets tree sap out of a horses mane? I tried reg horse shampoo, didnt even touch it. I dont want to have to cut it out.

GOO GONE! That stuff works wonders on a wide variety of things!! Peanut Butter, mayonnaise, melted butter or cooking oil are also reported to work!

I thought of that stuff but didnt know if it would damage Bonnys mane. Its getting very long ans so pretty, I just hate to cut the sap out and she has it everywhere! I found out it is a pine tree we have in the pasture and she loves to rub on it.

I'd try the cooking oil first, it won't do any harm and just might work. I never knew it before the other day, but cooking oil does wonders to get oil-based paint off your skin (my husband has always just used gas, but I hate the smell of it); my MIL told me about it after I painted my barn.

I second the GOO GONE. My little mare rubbed up against the pitch on a telephone pole on a hot day and gobbed up her mane and all the way down one side. Nothing would touch that stuff. So first, I sprayed the GOO GONE on my arm and went about my chores and after 45 minutes I decided it was fine on skin (if even a little silky!) and then used it on my mare. It kind of made the pitch harden and then slide right out. I love that stuff and have it in my grooming kit just for things like this. Good luck with your sticky girl!

My dog got some kind of sap on him a few days ago. I didn't bother to get it off the first day or two, but I should have. I tried soap and the sap didn't budge. Finally used some drops of lighter fluid and the sap came right off. Two of the sappy places had burned his skin (he is a white single coat dog so you can see ANYTHING on him). Not sure what sap would be that caustic. But, just thought I'd mention that, in case the sap is on the horse's skin and not just the mane.

I keep lighter fluid on hand as it takes off sticky labels without harming the paper, and dissolves chewing gum quickly. I've wondered if goo off is the same ingredient, just called a different name?
