Can anyone help me out with feeding amounts for an idle 36" mini gelding? Just picked up a bag, and there are no clear directions on the back of the package for minis. According to the bag they should all be fed the lite, but I know quite a few of you feed this TC 30%, and this particular gelding doesn't need the lite.

Thank you!

All my horses, the mares, the yearling and the stallion get a heaping 1 1/2 cup (I have a scoop I got at Walmart in the pet section) of Triple Crown 30%. This amount weighs about 1/2 a pound. My feed guy told me to feed this amount, AT LEAST. So I took that to mean that they need at least this amount to get the vitamins and minerals. All my horses look great and during show season I don't even need to spray show sheen on them, they shine and shine.

Edited to add: My horses are 34", 35", 37" and the yearling will probably mature around 35-36". I forgot to add that!

Holy buckets 30% protein? That's pretty high - usually I hear 12-14% protein. Especially if you feed alfalfa with that?

They don't get 30% protein in one feeding, this is a supplement so you don't feed large amounts of it.

Here is the feeding guidelines that I worked out for Miniatures, based on the amounts recommended on the back of the bag.

1 cup 30% Supplement weighs 5oz

250lbs Broodmare: 8oz per day (works out to 3/4 cup twice a day)

Growing Mini: 6oz per 125lbs per day (for 125lbs weanling 1/2 cup twice a day)

My 38" mare gets 1 cup twice a day, when pregnant/nursing if that helps.

These are approx feeding guidelines can be increased/decreased according to the weight needs of the horse. I don't see on the website any guidelines for minimum/maximum amounts to be fed, I think there is a max limit on the bag? I can't remember, maybe that is the Triple Crown Lite.

I've been feeding this to my broodmares, stallions and growing horses for over a year now and I've been very happy with it!

I'm sure you could contact Triple Crown and they could tell you how much they recommend.

Thank you for all your replies! Appreciate it! I did call TC this morning, and was told to feed roughly about 1/4 lb a.m. and p.m. for this gelding, and that looks like it would be right around 3/4 of a cup 2x per day. I'm going to weigh it out here just to be sure. Thanks again..........you guys were right on!
