I don't know what I did, and of course it is after 5 and can't get ahold of anyone at the phone company.

Are old answering machine was on it's last leg and we got a new one....well I have never had any trouble hooking one up before, but I hooked this one up....then dialed my own number to see how many rings till it picked up......Well now all of a sudden I have NO dial tone at all......................

I unplugged the answering machine, and hooked just the phone up.....and still nothing......

2 weeks ago we had no dial tone...and it was the phone company having trouble....but I had one until I hooked up this darn machine....

SO what could be the trouble?? I left a message at the phone company, (on my cell) and when I try to call my number from my cell phone, it just gives a busy signal.

HELP!

Don't know if you have this where you are at but, if you go outside the house where the telephone line comes into the house. There shoud be a little grey box with a door on it. You can open the door and there will be a plug that you can plug a phone into. If you plug a phone in and get a dial tone then you will know that it is a problem in your house. If you get no dial tone from the outside phone connection then it is a phone company problem. I hope I made myself clear? If not let me know and maybe I can explain it a little better.

Well I just went out and tried that.....no dial tone.....SO maybe it isn't something I did afterall.....

hmmmmm...........

Thanks for the info Farmhand!!! :saludando:

Farmhand sounds as though their is a phone person in the background.. I would have told you the same as my hubby works for Bellsouth, and that is a first thing we do when the phone is out.. sounds as though you have a problem with the actual line.. I'd be calling the phone company

Thanks everyone! Yes it was something with the card??? Whatever that is in the box where our phone line and Internet comes in, Thankfully the internet was still working.

I was so sure I screwed something up since it did it right after I hooked up the new machine!!

No, just have had the same happen to me, and that is what the phone company says to try first. We also have the linebacker service. In case it is in the house it is covered for repairs. Pay a little each month but I think it is worth it in the long run. IMO
