Thanks everyone. That was a nail biter for sure!

Generally, the dystocias I've had, result in a dead foal. So I was certainly expecting the worst. Dr Johnston was pleasantly surprised too at the outcome.

He said, usually these dystocia calls are pretty depressing, but this one had a good ending. He was feeling pleased when he left last night. As he should.

Oh, the new colt's name is Johnston.

My regular vet, who wasn't available last night, will come tomorrow and check Starlight for any tears and flush her. Hopefully, no damage was done.
 
Congratulations on a great save!! And thanks so much for posting the whole story, along with udder photos. It seems like all we have here are dystocias, so anything I can learn about them might help for the next time. At least our last one had a happy ending like yours did, also with vet intervention. Can't wait to see pictures.

ETA: Oh my gosh he is adorable!!!!

Congratulations on a drama-filled foaling! Whew! And hopefully your mare has no tears or much bruising.

He sure is a pretty one!
