I posted last Thursday about my neighbor's dogs who killed a kitten. One is a pit bull (the one who actually killed it) and the other is a german shephard/collie mix. For those who don't remember or didn't read it, I was out with my horses and they began chasing the kittens that live by my horse pen. One was caught, and I have been fearful that since the dogs are getting within 20 feet of my pen, my horses would be the next target. We called the sheriff, and animal control but no one so much as talked to the owners. Ok, let me take that back, the people who own the cats, went and talked to the neighbors.

My horses were attacked last month by dogs that appeared to be more interested in playing, than hurting. So I took this really badly. I haven't brought my horses over to my front yard in the past month because the last time I did, the pit bull ran along his fenceline, charging at them and growling. Thank God he was behind a fence that time. The german shephard showed no interest in the horses, but he runs with the pit bull and I know he would join in. I hate to even think what they could do to the horses. The pit bull is very unfriendly, as he growls at me in my yard threatening me not to get any closer as I go to my car (and he has known me through the fence since he was a puppy). He charges at school kids as they walk down to the bus also (again, I am so glad he is behind his fence when he does it).

Anyways, nothing happened Friday except they were roaming the streets. Come Saterday, the german shephard was out chasing the kittens again. We yelled at him and it did absolutely no good. I swear he couldnt even hear us, as he only had CATS on his mind. The cat owners again went over to talk to the dog owners and threatened to shoot the dogs if it didn't stop. We have had three neighbors (and us as well) talk to the owners about the dogs running the streets but it does no good.

Monday, I came home from work and the woman who owns the cats, said that we shouldn't have to worry so much any more. She says that the german shephard was struck by a car earlier in the day and the animal control was called to come and pick up the body. My sheriff neighbor confirmed that yesterday. I haven't seen the pit bull out of the yard since.

The sad reality is...it would have only taken a chain to prevent the dog from dying. They knew their dogs were digging out of the yard but they had no respect for the neighbors to take care of the problem, so instead the poor dog was hit by a car and died slowly (according to the sheriff neighbor). So sad, but then again, I have to admit that somehow, I don't feel so scared anymore. Maybe now, they have began to chain the pit bull, as they know that it may have a very sad future as well, if they don't keep it home. I just wanted to update everyone.

Your whole situation sounds very sad.

I feel badly for both the kitten and the german shepherd.

Unfortunately, I suspect the story isn't over yet. The Pit Bull was the aggressor and his owners obviously don't want to take the time to be responsible handlers of him. Chaining him up will only make him that much worse when he gets loose........and it's only a matter of time that he will get loose.

I would highly suggest documenting everything that happens with a digital camera. It's the only way you will have proof to cover yourself should somthing ever happen.

Best of luck, I hope the situation improves for you.

Although the neighbor's breed and raise pit bulls, the only two that get out of the yard is the pit bull and the german shephard. I am hoping that now that the partner in crime is gone, that maybe the pit bull will stay closer to home. Wishful thinking anyways.

I agree chaining this dog WILL make it worse................so sad that humans cannot take responsibility for the animals they choose to own. I would continue documenting any instances and keep calling the sherriffs office ...more than likely they will tell you to just shoot the dog if it is on your property but squeaky wheels usually get greased

I for one would far rather see the dog dead than chained up- what sort of life is that for an animal??

Chaining a dog to secure it, for short periods of time, is one thing.

Putting it in a chain because you cannot control it, and leaving it there, day in, day out, should be illegal.End of story.

No dog is any use as a guard chained up, anyway, so what possible excuse or reason could anyone have for chaining a dog 24/7???
