My daughters both have VERY dry skin on their hands and wrists. We have hard water so I was having them put on lotion after every time they washed their hands and it still didn't help much. If they missed just one time with lotion, it was really bad again. The doctor said to put on Vaseline and rubber gloves or socks and that works to a point, but it's not convienent. Also, Carmex works really well, but we're going through it like crazy.

So I was wondering what works best for y'all?

My hands get super dry too in the winter, and I've found a few things that help. First is to drink LOTS of water, helps your skin stay hydrated. Put vaseline or lotion on under cotton gloves and sleep in them at night. Cowboy Magic makes a dry skin lotion that's really good, and my favorite at the moment is La Source Hand Therapy made by Crabtree & Evelyn. It's really a nuisance isn't it. The other thing that helps my hands a lot is to wear gloves when I go out, esp to work in the barn. If it's cold I don't go out there without gloves.

When I know I will be working outside for awhile I will slather on HoofFlex or whatever hoof lotion I have, then put on leather gloves. Keep using the same pair , they will absorb the lotion and stay soft. This helps TONS. If I have a really dry/cracked patch I will keep putting some lip balm on it, along with the lotion trick.

My husband brought home this stuff called Zim's Crack Creme. I don't know where he originally got it, but I know you can get it at Walgreen's, for example. It is a spray and smells like cloves, but it works really well.

What happens to me is after every baby I've had, my skin tends to break out in eczema for about a year afterward. What triggered it this time was the horse feed, so I would start itching when I came in from the barn, then the itching usually would turn to dry, cracked areas on my hands.

If I use the spray during the itchy phase, it would pretty much be gone by morning. I don't know why it works, but it does. I've tried everything from the over the counter stuff to prescriptions for eczema and dry skin, but this stuff works great.

There's another thing I can't think of that is made for the automotive mechanics, and it worked, too, but this Zim's is good. You can also purchase it online, they have a website. Nothing but the spray works for me, so I don't bother with the other products.

I have the same problem!

Only I can't put on lotion during the day, it drives me whacky, and I also wash my hands a ton

So I only put lotion on right before I go to bed and then put cotton gloves on.

The ONLY lotion that works for me is, Neutrogena Hand Cream, the Norwegian Formula. I can get it here at any supermarket and Walmart. The tube says just a dab, which works great if you put it on all the time.

But since I only put it on at night I put on a bunch, it takes a good 5 minutes to rub in.

But that gets me through the whole day without a problem and my hands don't start to get dry again until about 7 or 8 at night, and then it's almost bed time again anyway.

My skin is more dry this year than ever, I think. It's almost like my whole body is about the crack open. Just this morning, I was thinking how skin is actually our largest organ & mine's a MESSSSSSS. Combine this with the fact that I can't tolerate perfumey smelling creams/lotions. Anybody know of a truly UNSCENTED GOOD lotion or cream??? Smelly stuff makes me nauseaus (sp) but also burns like he** on all of my skin.........HELP!!! Oh, it also can't cost a fortune!

l'm outside a lot and wash my hands at least a million times during the day so can get really sore and cracked skin. The one thing that works for me the last few years is the Calgon lntense Mositure Foot Cream great for hands feet and face isn't greasy goes on smooth and really soaks in within a minute. Great also for sun burned skin in summer. Really plumps up the old wrinkles on the face to boot.

This is dairy country, and farmers around here have a secret weapon called Udder Cream. It's used for the dryness and cracking of the dairy cows udder, but works wonderfully for the farmers hands too. We get it at Fleet Farm. There are several different brands/formulas, but they all work quite well.
