Hello,

Not sure if any of you remember about how excited I was that i finally got a job after being a stay at home mom for more than 6 yrs. I started back in Sept. and was told I was hired as temp. part time. Well as time went on, my boss kept saying that they were going to make my job perm. I was working in an accts. payable dept. of a medical supply company. It was just mentioned to me that on Dec. 26 was my 90 days and that I would get my raise and bonus. I was told yesterday to start parking "in the front with all the excutives." Well my x-mas present was that I was let go today. No warning. I would not have been so shocked if they wouldn't have kept saying your doing great and you will be here for as long as you like.. I really loved what I did.. I just can't believe that this is happening.. It is like a bad dream that I need to wake up from. No other reason was said, besides your position was only temp. and your 90 days are up.

I am just so hurt and upset.. If I was only temp. why did they give me a company shirt and a gift card for 25.00.(Being in the acct. dept, I know temps never got anything extra at all..) I'm just so lost and hurt. i started at only 12 hrs. the first week. They asked me to work more and I started the next day at 25 hrs. Then I even just went up to 40 hrs week for them, and this is the thanks I get.. Sorry to ramble on, the kids are in bed and hubby is sleeping and I'm just sitting here crying. We really needed me to have this job. I needed it for me. It felt really good to be out working again. Sorry this is so long, but I really needed to get this off of my chest.

I hope everyone else gets better Christmas gifts that I did... I hope I can get over this a little better before Christmas for the kids as I am really depressed now...

Thanks for letting me vent, and as a warning, I'll be posting more, now that I'm home all the time..

So sorry to hear this right at Christmas. Doesn't seem fair for them to tell you all that then Poop on you almost at the same time. Well, after the first of the year maybe you can find a better permanent job. Will be praying for you.

Hope you have a Merry Christmas!!!!!!! You need to keep yourself going for the kids & be Happy for them & Hubby.

Oh Jodie......You have every right to vent!!!

Why is it that "big businesses" take the pleasure of dumping employees at CHRISTMAS TIME????!!!

I would be crying and stomping and punching pillows too...........And then dry your tears and soak in a hot tub and give yourself "me" time.

I have a feeling there is something even better for you out there, but spend Christmas with your family and go after it when the season is over.

MA

Thanks Miniv and minijoyj.. At least now I can be home with the kids after Christmas to enjoy their presents.. I hope you two have a Merry Christmas too.. And that hot bath sounds really good...

Jodie ,

I am so sorry for what these jerks have done to you ....Enjoy your holidays with your family.

Pick your self up dust your self off and hold your head high.. Everything will work out..everything happens for a reason..Dont let it bring you down ..Merry Christmas to your family ...

I'm so sorry!

{{{Hugs}}} What the h*ll is wrong with those buttheads treating you like that??!!!

Why go through all that telling you about a promotion and dumping you instead? There's no excuse for that and I hope that karma bites them in the butt! Grrrr!!!

Take some time for yourself, enjoy your family and know that everything happens for a reason. I bet something even better comes along!

I'm so sorry this happened

I do know that if I look back at things that happened to me, even the "bad" things, I do usually (eventually) feel that they happened for a reason.

It's natural to feel like you are now, but try and not take it personally. Big business is a beast in and of itself. This could turn into an opportunity where you will find a job you enjoy more and are appreciated more! I hope it does

They made you a promise, albeit verbally, and they have renaged.

I think you need to see a lawyer.

Hi Jodi,

Sorry you got caught up in Corporate America! This happens all the time with "Temps" and new hires, especially those that are hired from September to December. Most of the time those companies are trying to fill last minute rush orders, get their inventories brought up before the end of the year and many other things. Don't fret, use this as a stepping stone (especially since you had been out of the work force for six years), contact a Kelly Girl, or Temp service and they will help you get another job now that you have some working up to date skills you are now more marketable.

Hang in there I know it's tough these last two weeks of the year. Use it to work on your resume', freshen up your work clothes, get a new haircut and relax. January brings a whole new year, and you just might be suprised at what's around the next corner waiting just for you.

Have a Merry Christmas & and a wonderful New Year.

Unfortuntly that is not how it works. I am so sorry about this. That was very mean of them to do. Corporate Amercia does suck. Hang in there, now that you have current experience it should be easier finding a better job :bgrin

I am so sorry this happened to you especially this time of year - I would call your State's labor board though. One small bright spot is you would not want to be working for these creeps anyways if this is how they treat their employers. I would also send their HR dept a certified letter explianing what happened, name names of who told you what and close saying how this is not how employees should be treated and ask for an apology-if this is a large company they the HR dept may not know this is going on. And yes, you may a case

Good morning everyone, and thanks for all the replies.. The HR cordn. is the one who hired me, and had said that everything looked good for me. That I was doing a great job and that was the reason she knew i would be there past the 90 days. The owners daughter was home and needed my office for the day, and he told me to just use his office for the rest of the week that he wasn't going to be in. Everyone that would decide to let me go wasn't there. Only the HR cordn. And she is the one that told me I was done yesterday. I've heard that they were good for doing this to people, but in their other depts. Not on the excutive side because the owner paid attention to things.. Everyone was just as shocked as I was because evreyone heard the same that I did, I was hired as a temp then I proved I could do the acct and helped get them caught up, that they we're going to keep me. I was even invited to the x-mas party. Temps are never invited.. I know things happen for a reason, but this black cloud has been here to long.. For about 5 years... It just wasn't meant to be.. I just feel bad that I won't be there for the gift exchange and the name I picked won't get nothing... I won't step foot back at that place.. I would like to take their shirt and shove it up the HR cordn. @##!!!. It is a big well know company and their son is their Lawyer. Maybe he would be on my side, as he was a sweetie and always nice. BUt he would be there for them... Now, I can clean and get ready for x-mas. It is just that we were waiting until Friday to shop for our kids as my hubby's check was going to be extra.. Well now that I have no income, we will need it to make it next month. This Christmas won't be a good one for the kids-- hardly anything for them. I wish Santa would help out!!!

Jodie

I'm so sorry. I know first hand what this is like. I worked for 13 years for a company(was a junior accountant at the time worked my way up for a file clerk) and was let go because they were bought out by a publicly traded company. It was illegal for them to tell us what was really going on(they were all under a gag order) but that wasn't the worst......

I then got a job in accounts payable at another company that builds stairs and rails. Construction has decreased to the point of lay offs that past year. Which they started doing, but I was told I had nothing to worry about. I actually went to the HR mgr. and told her this is starting to sound a lot like the way my other company acted around us. No one would look me in the eye. They kept telling promises just like the other company. I nailed it......

They had laid off over 40 people in the past two months and there was only almost 200 employees there.

So near the end of the month last July I get a call at home. They let me go over the phone. I was the only person that they let go over the phone. Two days before the end of the month. So not only did I get let go, but I didn't get my bonus for the month because you can not miss two consecutive days in a month or you lose your bonus. I tried to fight that but it didn't work.

Here's the other great parts. My boss never told me. Never spoke to me nothing he had the HR mgr do it. Such a jerk. All this knowing I was pregnant with my second child.

I was on bed rest with my first in the last trimester so my husband and I decided it be best if I stayed at home for a while.

So I'm a stay at home Mom now and to be honest I don't want to go back. It's a struggle financially with one income. My husband works pretty much 7 days a week and he had started college right before I got laid off.

It's funny though... I've gotten people from my old job and other people that have asked me to interview for about 10 jobs since then.

Everything will work out. Things happen for a reason.

Get through the holidays and maybe go out and look again. The good news that every job you were at that's just more experience to put on your resume. One thing I would suggest is to ask for something in writing stating you were laid off and why. That away you can have that for your records for any future requests from other jobs as to why you aren't working there anymore.

I just saw you were posting at the same time as me. Interesting how much the HR mgrs. were involved in both of our issues. Mine actually asked me to keep her posted on how my pregnancy was going... yea right that's not going to happen.

Take care.

Kim

This really $uck$. But, it happens all the time. It is so unfair that they kept telling you that you'd be staying on. I totally hate that companies do this type of thing all the time. They lie just to keep you there and then kick you in the face.

This is not the same scenario, but this is what happened to me. I worked for a company for 5 years. Got my regualr pay and then had the option of doing extras for commission. They didn't give many raises. I worked my butt off for them doing all my work much faster and more accurately than the previous person. Did a lot of commission work and was making a good amount of extra money. The company was a small family owned company. They then sold out to a bigger company. The new bosses promised all kinds of raises and other sugar coated goodies to make things sound great. I couldn't wait to get my first promised raise. The time came and went and there was no raise. I asked my boss about it. She said, "You believed them?" :new_shocked: Well, sure I did! I said I wanted a raise. She told me I'd have to have a meeting with her and her boss together. We had the meeting. Was told, I would not get a raise. I said then I wanted to be able to have more time to work on commission work, so I could make more money. They said the commission policy was being re-written. It turned out, I was gonna lose most of the commission work I was working on, so in all, I would be making less money than I had before. Oh Great! Pay cut? They said, "take it or leave it." New bosses had lied, No raises for anybody as promised. I moved on. Wasn't gonna work where busting my butt wasn't appreciated. I did so much for them and was congratulated by getting anything extra I had been making, taken away. Business $uck$. I hate working. Always ended up getting $crewed.

This is a real crappy slap in the face and they are slime balls for doing this.

I think I would go back there today and speak to the boss. I only say this because you liked your job there so much. I would tell him that you loved working there and you also needed the income. I would ask him to please leave the door open for you to come back if they need you again in the future. It can't hurt.

businesses lie all the time and no one stops them. it was over 20 years ago but i worked for a small attorney's office with two locations. to save money they decided to consolidate to one location, but the suite was not big enough so they had 2 separate ones next door to each other. everyone in the other office smoked and no one in ours did, so we were concerned about that especially because of my allergies. asked about it and was told don't worry, all people from the other office will go into the separate suite next door, no smokers in here. walked in the first day after the move and there sat mary the chain smoker at the desk next to mine. lovely. bought with my own money air cleaner machines and air fresheners. did not spray when she was sitting there, only when she walked away. next thing you know I AM FIRED because I DON'T GET ALONG WITH PEOPLE. i was crushed BUT it was the best thing that could have happened, i had a WAY better job within a week and they knew they were guilty so gave me a severance check that turned out to be extra money since i found a new job so quick. too bad it happened when i was young and naive, if it happened to me now they would be SUED!!!

so like several others have said, things happen for a reason, something better is out there waiting so have a nice Christmas and then, GO GET IT :aktion033: :aktion033:

and i have to tell you, when i first saw the title of your post, i thought your story would be different. at that same company, my christmas present one year from the BOSS was a cabbage patch doll and a chocolate dick - yes, p*n*s!! is that disgusting or what???? but again young and naive, i just let it slide. he should have been brought up on charges!!!!

Marty,

I was suppose to be using the owner of the company's office while he was away. He comes back tomorrow. He gave me a hug when I did his expense checks done. That was the first ones he had in a year and a half... I know he didn't need the money but he was greatful that I took 3 hours to do it for him. I'm going to go over and speak to him, because something just isn't right. And after I read your post, you are right, it won't hurt to try.. Thanks..

Did you work for a temp agency that put you there? I am working for a staffing agency and they take care of all that talking with the company. They could be a good advocate for you.

Recently I started at a place where there was one other temp that had been there for months. I started for 4 days, then they extended it another week, then another, then another. Two Thursdays ago they told me my last day was Friday because I didn't want the job I'd been working in on a permanent basis and they needed someone that could be temp to hire. They were bringing in someone new and the girl that had been there for months was staying temp to hire in another position. The HR director was telling her all kinds of good things and she expected that job.

On Friday they told me that I could stay and the other girl was leaving. The supervisor of that section didn't like the attitude of the the other girl. She was stunned. I had survivor guilt. It was all very weird. It was not handled well at all.

As a temp they can do anything to you.

But the benefit is that you can do anything to them-- if you don't like the job you can wave good-bye with no guilt!

I am so sorry this happened to you. I hope that when the right people get in there in the next couple days, that you'll be asked back-- or at least get some kind of explanation.
