Views on Political Correctness

Ok, I debated on posting this, but I say what the hay? (Sorry for the pun horse lovers)

I may have a more conservative traditional view on the matter being from the southern USA. I have had about as much political correctness as I can stand. This stems from a story I read the other day, I cannot recall where it was though.

I 14 yr old Middle School student, with a good past and good grades had missed a day of school. On this day the Science teacher assigned groups for class projects. The next day when the girl went to school, the teacher instructed her to go be in a group with 4 others, none of which spoke english. Upon getting frustrated and not being able to communicate with her group, she asked the teacher if she could be in another group so she could understand what is going on.

Immediately she wasverbally bombarded by the teacher being called a racist and sent to the officer where the school security took her to the downtown police office. She was then stripped of her belongings, everything but bare essential clotheses removed, mugshot take, and fingerprints taken. They were holding her under suspicion that she may want to hurt the people in the group she was assigned.

My god is this what we pander to now?

Like the fact we can't feel more uneasy on a plane that has 5 Muslims spekaing arabic sitting together than 5 redneck boys singing skynard lyrics.

Now I dont like racial profiling, but god to say you can more closely screen people of one type than onother if you are under constant threat from the same type group. Thats is done everyday, how do you think police detectives and FBI solve their crimes, through profiling. Some Americans care so darn much what others think of us, they are willing to sacrifice our safety and values to make others happy.

Take for instance up north, many schools will pay tribute to the Christmas of many cultures during plays and singing, but they won't Christmas. It's now a Winter Holiday rather than Christmas Break.

Back in the past, when you became a citizen here, America integrated you and you absorbed our traditions and blended well with us, but now I believe with all the illegals coming in, the integration factor is gone, they remain who they are and do not technically become americans in the sense of what it was meant to be when the INS was set up.

Why in god's name would the school system let someone in that cant speak english? Why????? Isn't is required on the citizenship test to speak our language? Yup it is.

All it does is hinder the learning of the kids there that speak english. We are the only country in the world that wont just kick illegals out...you ever ask yourself why? UK does it, France does it, germany does it, Australia does it.

We are the only country that doesnt have a language requirement enforced, you ever ask yourseld why?

Hope i didnt offend anyone, not my cause....I was just frustrated over that story and needed to vent.

I personally really dont care what other countries think of us, because as long as we are the richest, most advanced, and the only super power.....no one will truly like us

Since you cannot recall where you read it, you cannot know that it is fact. Coming from a news outlet would be one thing, from email another. My mom assumes that everything she reads in emails is truth, she doesnt realize that there are people literally sitting around dreaming up stories to send via email just to provoke racism.

That being said, if this truly happened then SHAME ON THE SCHOOL!!!! Sounds like the girl would have one heck of a lawsuit layed on her lap. I think English should be the official language. Dont think we should offer translaters for more than a couple semesters, just long enough for them to learn english.

Profiling is one thing, however one must remember that most of the attacks on our country were from white men. I find it shameful that we profile the ones that are different, yet forget about all the other harm done us by those that look like us. The majority of Muslims do not wish us harm, its that small radical percent that do and they ruin it for everyone else.

I do care what other countries think of us. The more we isolate ourselves the bigger a target we are. We cannot afford to bail out other countries, to keep 'them there so they arent here'. We already have amassed a HUGE debt doing this. I want us to have enough respect so other countries will help. Kinda would rather us have everyone with health insurance, than us taking care of other countries needs.

Just be aware that email stories are just that , stories. Most are not real. There isnt a giant 20' long croc living in a local lake. There isnt a Muslim Christmas stamp. You wont get money for forwarding emails. 'Signing' your name to an email petition probably will never work, who knows who is last and that its time to send it in? Those super skinny models arent, thats called photo shop. And the false stories go on and on.

Oh NO we don't- we have more illegal immigrants than ANY other European country.

At the moment the latest wheeze is to send the kids over unaccompanied- then WE have to pay for ALL upkeep of the child until it is 18.

Then we can legally ship it back.

ONLY there is now a society that will pay all legal fees to get the child Citizenship...after which , of course, it can start shipping in all it's relatives!!

Do NOT get me started on Immigrants, forget whether they are illegal or not, just Immigrants!!!!

I do wonder though if the original story was a "Snopes"??

It is illegal to remove a child from School property except in an emergency and strip searching a 14 year old would not be legal without charges being made and a parent present.

She was pulled aside by security and reprimanded for using the term oriental. It seems you can't use that term anymore. You have to say asian. She was so stunned She just walked out the door.

Oh yes, I got absolutely ripped to shreds a few years ago on a newsgroup when I commented that my husband and I had gone to the Oriental Resturaunt for dinner. I mean I was blasted like crazy, called a racist, called "insensative" etc. I even had people threaten my life. The real kicker was that the NAME of the place we went to eat WAS The Oriental Resturaunt. It was owned by and Asian family and their big draw was that they served foods "from all corners of the Orient". What am I supposed to have called the place??????

Not only that, but no matter what you say, SOMEONE will be offended.

I learned that a long time ago too. If I made sure to never say anything that might offend someone I'd never be able to say anything at all.... and with as much of a chatter box as I am THAT is never going to happen. I try to be considerate of others feelings and I definately avoid anything that would be obviously offensive like the things that are clearly racial slurs, but a lot of times it just hits me out of the blue.

Like when I was telling some friends once about an ancestor of mine who was black and someone ripped into me for using the word "black" so i changed it African American and someone ELSE ripped into me for saying that because they found that offensive. Luckily I had grown a thick skin by then and I didn't let it bother me. It was interesting to watch those two argue about it, though.

I feel kinda retarded, but thats a UK story......lol although I have heard many stories here similar, like 7th graders in one CA school are required to learn certain versus of the Koran in a civics class.

Lets just continue the discussion on whether you support the PC movement or are tired of it.

And pepipony, I dont agree with the statement about whites, if you take a give time, say 5 years, anywhere in history, I bet muslims have killed more. We are not talking bank robbery and murder as in street crime, terror attacks, tim nichols and so forth, we may have had 5 in the last 20 years from white extremist.......lol lets take a look at islamist:

Maybe Muslims have killed more now, but before a decade ago we never heard of them at all. Wonder how many Muslims we killed when Christians started the Crusades? Which if truly thought about, that was the start of the hatred for us. Christians starting Holy wars have killed more Christians than Muslims have. That is fact. May not be the rule now, but it was the rule of past centuries.

Since the Police have not commented and there is no actual proof ANY of this actually happened, I am maintaining an open mind- incidentally the alleged apprehension- there definitely was no arrest- took place a week after the incident, about which we have only the word of a 14 year old.

no arrest was made, no charges even filed, but the over reaction of authortative figures should enrage any parent. my son was told by a girl in the 2cd grade she buried a gun at school, he said he did too 5 years ago to show her up. This would have made him 4 and he would have been living in another city and gone to pre school.

They suspended him out of school for 5 days, I talked them down to 2.

A friend of mine in London told me, "The Daily Mail is barely better then the Weekly World News you have there in the US. Unless you can verify the story elsewhere do not believe what they print. You wouldn't believe that Hillary Clinton had an aliens love child like they printed in the Weekly World News, would you? Oh no, you find much worse then an eye for an eye. God demanded when the children of isreal went into the promised land that they kill off every man woman child and animal. In more then one case they were told to kill off everyone in lands they entered in order to prevent them from being tempted to turn to the other people religions. Sounds an awful lot like the same sort of rhetoric as the "kill the infidels" stuff.
