I hate change when its something that was hard for me to learn in the first place.

We have been toying with getting another computer because my husbands 98 is getting so out of date that I might get a new computer and give him my xp.

Ok now that vista is out and it seems like I just got used to my xp I am wondering if I should get another xp while they are still around.

At WAl Mart they had e machine with vista already installed and compc with xp still installed but you can upgrade to vista.

As long as I am asking what does anyone think of e machine or compac?

Thanks

On T.V. talking about Vista they say you can upgrade now so you are not too worried on having XP, but in the future is going to have to buy the computer with vista.

The way hubby understands it, if you want to be able to do things you you are going to have to forget XP and go to Vista.

I have XP and hope I do not have to buy vista, but If you need a new computer, I would go to Vista now.

Maybe someone with more computer knowledge can explain? Walt where are you?

I haven't tried Vista yet but from what I've heard on the news its suppose to be MORE user friendly and easier to use, etc.

I personally don't like switching until things have been out awhile. Every OS i've seen them come out with has bugs and they have to fix it - hence XP's 2 huge service packs, so for now I'll wait a little while but I'm sure its inevitable, and I'll have it as some point.

P.S. Here's a link to try it before buying it. http://www.windowsvistatestdrive.com/

My hubby the techno-weenie (and what I've seen on the news) suggest that unless you have a brand-new (within the last couple of months) computer or unless you're buying one WITH Vista, that you just wait until you're next computer to go to Vista.

Apparently it's a major memory-hog and really needs a system that is designed to work with it.

So we're sticking to XP - at least until we need the next new computer!

You can download a program from Windows web site that we see just if your machine can use Vista. What you might need to upgrade etc.

I won't be going to Vista on this Dell Because of the Ram Memory upgrade to the minimum of 512 I really should go up to 1 Gig Because that is what Vista would like to run on. and at 300+ in dollars to upgrade the ram doesn't make much sense. ALSO I was surprised that My High End Video Card is NOT Compatible with Vista. And this is a 4 year old Dell with a ATI All In Wonder Pro 9000 TV card and that will not work with Vista. So that is another 100 bucks or so.

So I am going to just wait till I get a new computer~!!!!

I may think of a Mac for my next PC. Although it WILL be running Windows though now that they switched to Intel chips instead of using Motorola ones.

I did use Apples and Macs 12 years ago my last Mac was a Power PC. I was even programming the blank data base we used called "Double Helix". That was cool learning how to program that and set up new files etc. These was at a factory I worked at in AZ. where I was in Inventory Control.

I worked on a MAC extensively this past summer when I interned at the Pinto Horse Association but I didn't have much time to "explore" the computer since the work kept me busy. I'm not convinced yet that I really like MACs. Other than their built in accessibility is better (the magnification anyway, still couldn't figure out the speech). I wish I knew someone that used MAC and I would test drive it before I decide whether my next computer will be MAC or PC. Right now that wouldn't work for me because everything we're doing in school has to do with the Microsoft .NET stuff, like learning C#, and PHP with the server software.

I've often thought about looking more into a MAC, and as someone who loves pictures and graphics, would it be better for me than a PC? Would someone please explain the difference really between the MAC and PC? Would I have any problems opening or reading something that someone may send to me from a PC? My business is strictly run on-line, 85% of my customers orders come in on-line, and I worry about compatibility. I also generate all my customer invoices on my computer, and send them via e-mail as well. First steps are way to scary :ugh: !

My laptop died Monday, so off I went to get it fixed. $400 to fix?! :new_shocked: NO WAY! So, I put it back in my truck and back in the store and bought a brand new HP laptop with Vista on Tuesday. So far, I love it, especially on the widescreen since there is a strip called a sidebar where you can have different 'gadgets' displaying all the time. I have a clock, weather in Columbus and Centerburg, scrolling news feed and a picture slide show. Kinda cool!

Had to have this laptop so I could take it to Vegas in three weeks!

If you buy new, I would go vista.

I would never go mac because my favorite game is not available on Mac until the window release months after that. I like my windows.
