Glad your gelding made it, too

Has he made a full recovery (no laminitis/founder)?

Yes, it's oxytetracycline that he is using. One more shot today and she's done (it's a 5 day course). Willow is a fighter; she's out in the paddock right now with Lex and you'd never know anything had happened. Crazy how quickly they can crash and then how quickly they can come back. I was sure I was going to find her dead in her stall on Saturday. Now she's running around and bucking outside

I don't know what I or Lex would have done if we'd have lost her (Lexus needs another horse around).

Yes, a full recovery. Like your Willow, you would never know anything happened at all! Except that he did loose alot of weight! He looked like a skeleton when I brought him home, I just wanted to cry. But he's back to his laid back, loving gentlemanly ways. Like you, I expected to go out and find him passed away. I didn't sleep for a week and even went out to the vets in the middle of the night to see him!

Here's to happy endings!

So very glad Willow is doing well. Hang in there Matt you've done such a great job with your girl.

Thanks also for sharing your experience I'm sure it may save another sometime.

Thanks again all. I keep looking at her and marveling at her and thanking the higher powers

"Gypsy", Willow lost virtually no weight and I believe it's for a few reasons:

1. we caught this very very early (she looked great at noon and then was down and not eating at 4pm and the vet was over by 5pm giving the oxytetracycline etc.).

2. tons of electrolytes, both IV (once daily) and orally (20ccs 4 times/day) (the huge bottle he put in her IV had me in amazement

3. when we gave her banamine it completely made her comfortable, so she ate (even when she had watery diarrhea).

4. warm soaked timothy cubes when she was eating, plus all the grass hay she could take in (thanks to Pauline for bringing that over) I'm still doing that now (no grain/Gro 'n Win).

I think she has actually put weight on

Oh well...she can use it.

P.S. I'm calling the vets at Guelph and my other vet to let them know what we did and how we got her through this. Maybe it will save a few horses.
