Just wondering if you did your websites yourself or did you have a designer? If you had a designer, can you recommend them? Thanks.

I've always done mine myself, using both Netscape Communicator (free) and Coffee Cup (commercial ap). However, I did use a graphic artist to design my farm logo and business cards -- Janine at Trinity Graphics...

my site: www.whinny4me.com

My wife has always done mine as she is a graphic and web design artist

Debby Bowen is my webmaster/graphic designer. She is totally awesome.

I can't tell you how happy and lucky I feel to have her! I have her link right at the bottom of my Home Page. Bowens Design.

Lori Rafter (Milo Minis) on this forum is also a graphic designer. She is awesome and does quite a few Journal ads as well.

We've always done our own on Biz web site, but just recently gotten a pro to redo ours. What I want you to know is be careful. Two years ago my daughter, knowing I wanted a professionally done site, made a down payment to someone to redo our site. To make a long story short, she kept saying, well I'll get to it after JUlep Cup, wait till after Regionals, wait till after World show. Then after all the shows were over, she wouldn't return our e-mails or phone calls. Hope she had a good time showing on my daughters money! My advice would be if you hire someone get it in writing before sending a payment. The person working on our site now is working her heart out, and I'll post when it is up and running. Just use caution if you hire someone, you could be out some money, that is much needed in this economy.

I agree, go too sites they are doing?

Ask questions, to them and the web designer, how long it takes for updates, for doing changes and cost up front for your site being done.

How busy are they at this time, to do and complete your web site.

Good Luck and cannot wait to see your web site Riverrose

The key is, to keep in constant touch with the owner of the farm, hobby or business etc.

Having made websites for many farms, hobbies and businesses, during the last sixteen years, I have found that some, do not have much of an idea what they want. So it is then up to the designer, to show them ideas. On many websites, I have also had to write every bit of text, for those not comfortable to do so.

I never use ready-made templates. Always something from scratch, which would be like no other. There is no excuse for any webmaster, to use ready-made templates, which look like a thousand others across the internet.

In defense of all web designers, it might take days or weeks of constant interaction, before coming up with a design of which the owner of the site, feels happy. However, all updates etc., must be done in a timely fashion. Nobody should have to wait weeks for updates.

I have to say, that everyone for whom I have ever made a website, has become a firm friend, even though I know we will never meet. I still hear from those for whom I made sites many years ago, even though they no longer have the site and have gone out of the business or hobby. It all comes down to a sincere obligation to the client.
