When I went to put my two yearlings out, I noticed that my colt's eye looked weird-a bluish haze to it and it was cloudy. It didn't seem to bother him, but after the reading I've done on here (which of course had me thinking the worst case scenario) it was really bothering me!!!

: I bathed it with pure warm water which he seemed to enjoy. I had the vet out and he stained the eye and says that it isn't anything serious-probably just bumped it on something but to keep him out of the sun and to put special cream on it for the next few days.

A year ago I'd never even thought about having a miniature horse and now we have two and a half (put down payment on a foal that we will get when she is weaned later in the summer) and are looking for more!!! Our standardbreds like my colt (the first mini I got) but aren't impressed with our filly (we've had her a month)...oh well, I guess they'd better get used to them because they're here to stay!!

How scary for you. Right now, my yearling colt and weanling filly have some type of virus. I can definatley relate to how scary it is when something happens and you don't know what it is or what to do for it. I hope that everything turns out good with his eye.

Eye issues are always scary. We have a filly who only has one eye due to a pasture accident (before we bought her). I've had three of my horses scrape their eye lids on fences this year so far. Luckily none of mine have scratched their eyes. I think part of this is that it's been so windy, and fairly dry. I always check eyes on everyone, as it's so easy to get to an irrepairable state.

That does sounds scary!!I always check both of my horses eyes to make sure nothing is wrong!!Im always worried and always check there whole body's about twice a day!

yes, eye issues are nothing to be taken lightly. he sounds like he'll be okay. And yes, MINIS ARE SO ADDICTIVE!!!!!!! you've experienced that first hand, as i'm sure most of us on this forum have!! but what's not to love, they are so cute and cuddly. i bet many of us, like you, never thought about minis, then for some reason bought one, then that one needed a friend, then...so on and so on....LOL

hope your boy is alright, and show us pics of your new weanling when you get him!
