What about the tiny minis ?

I am starting to think that if the ASPC/AMHR horse holds true to quality and popularity, there will be a push for triple registered ASPC/AMHR/AMHA horses. I have seen quite a few AMAZING triple registered horses out there... and eventually as the gene pool broadens and there are more horses available, I think some breeders will try to specialize in breeding TINY triple registered horses. This will take a lot of time, so maybe ten years from now!

My new stallion measures right at 34"... he is four years old so if he doesn't grow any more I may hardship him into AMHA. Lyn also has a small ASPC/AMHR stallion here on the forum that will be small enough to hardship AMHA. And Getitia of Buckeye WCF already has a triple registered stallion.

Hers a little guy of mine, he is 27 1/2" now, he was a bit smaller in the pic. I love little ones, although I do have bigger ones ...up to 341/4"

I do believe there will always be farms breeding for small. I have always done that. I have 3 stallions here, 2 at 28" and 1 at 29 1/2". Eight of my mares are from 27 1/4" to 30 1/2" and I have 2 mares at 32 1/2". My 2 geldings are 30 1/4" and 30 1/2". Give me the small ones anytime.

There will always be room for ALL sized Miniatures.

: But....MY love always has, and still does, belong to the tiny ones.
default_wub.png
: That is the whole thing that attracted me to "Minis" in the first place....their tiny size. Mine currently range from 25" up to 32". (yearlings to adults) And I have two mature adults who are both under 28".

Here is my Legionaire son "Destiny" who will be 15 this year & only 27" on his tippy toes. :bgrin

I will be crossing him on my Frame "Moonstruck" daughters....starting with Lacy this year.

Those tiny minis are such sweet little creatures and must be the proudest posessions of those that own them. I personally prefer them about the thirty two inch size just because they have more practical applications for me. I have always leaned towards the driving side of having horses and feel that hauling grandpa and a few kids around is easier on the larger ones.

I have one of those that will be amha amhr and aspc. Michigans Sweet Tart is 3 this year and still under 33 inches.. he is the grey stallion in my avitar.

I currently have adult minis from 26 to 34". While I can't remember ever seeing any horse I didn't like :bgrin some I like more than others! If I had to choose who stayed and who left........those tiny ones would be my choice. Yep, I'm a "small horse breeder".

When I started out many years ago, I was SOOOO excited to find Tony -- because of our mutual love of the tiny ones.

The triple registered are great but I am talking TINY - like under 30".

I love the tiny ones too.....my smallest mare is only 28" and is pure bred shetland and none over 35 (2 of them over 34" at the withers) and my little colt is still only 24" at 6mths so think he will stay tiny too. I would rather have a miniature "horse" with great confirmation than a tiny dumpling or out of proportion one tho, and I do worry sometimes that too much focus on the "smallest possible" could lead to more problems like the dwarfism ones already present in this breed. Plus as one poster has said....you can do more with one closer to the 34" end of the scale and over..........I`m dying to learn to drive!!!

I like the small too, and dont think they are going anywhere. All but 3 of mine are between 28 to 34"s, my stallions all stand under 31"s. I think IMO part of the reason some people gave up on the tiny ones was because the smaller ones are more prone to foaling problems, where the larger B size you dont hear as often about "problems" (not to say there are none!) also, so many people seem to be going into driving now. At least with "OUR" breed there is room for all sizes! :aktion033:

We also love the smaller ones-- we have 3 stallions-- they are 29"" 28.50" & 28"

We have no B sized horses as yet.

We just bought a AMHR/ASPC stallion-- he will be a year old innMay & has not reached 30" as yet so I am hoping he will stay under 34" as well.

Years back I sold all my tiny ones because I wanted the long legged ones and they tended to be the 33-34" ones. I have always liked the real small ones though and I jumped on the chance when it came up and bought Shadow Lake Squiter- 4 yrs 25 3/4"

I love them all. I have a stallion that is 27.25" , his paternal grandsire is Little Kings Debonaire and his maternal grandsire is Bond Cracker Crumble C. I need to get better pictures. This is Desert Golds Dust Devil.

Another stallion is Roys Toy Snippets Feature, he is a 29.75" Bond Snippet son. Need new pics of him too.

I do love the tiny ones but I am far more concerned about conformation than I am about height.

I have two tiny and refined stallions, that are both as correct as I can get (nothing is perfect) and that is the type I wish to breed, it always has been........BUT (
default_smile.png
)

This year I bred a colt who was quite small at birth- I do not pay too much attention to birth height, I have to admit, I have had minute foals make 30" and average heighters make 26", anyway this colt is now 24" at 10 months, and looks like he is not going anywhere fast!!
default_rolleyes.gif

BUT he has not the conformation to make a stallion so he has been sold as a gelding to the best, nicest , fullest of cuddles home I could find for him!!!

So long as we keep our eyes firmly on the objectives, height, or lack of it, should not be an issue.

For me it goes without saying that conformation is more important than size. Any tiny horse I own is going to have just as correct conformation as one that is 33"

We started with the tiny horses, and now we have all sizes. Our smallest is 26.50" and the tallest is 36.00" and we love ALL of them!! I agree with Jayne, a correct horse is more important than height.

I feel very offended when someone looks at the smaller horses and says "well what good are they?" and I feel equally offended with people who look at the taller ones and say they are way too big to be miniatures - many people do not seem to realise what heights are allowed by the registries. I love them all, and we also find that there are still many people who specifically want the tiny ones.

I love them all but prefer mine small. I was so proud of Pistol for being able to go into the hunter class....just wish he would have taken the first jump...that little toot....he would stop at the first one and then go back from the beginning and jump everyone perfectly.

The first R show I took Rocky and Pistol too, they said you don't have to measure the pet quality they were both matured at about 28". The lady that took them to be measured said "I'll have you know these are going to be national champions!!!""
default_rolleyes.gif
: Needless to say....only two shows and no nationals.

I, too, want conformation first.

Isn't it wonderful that we all can be a group who loves them all....still have preferences and you know that is great.
