Were to start, hubby and I have been married for 38 years, second marriage for both of us. So we've always had kids, friends, then in-laws, son-in-laws, daughter-in-laws, grand kids, for dinner, in the past. This year will be totally different. All the kids are going to someones elses house and hubby and I are having our first Thanksgiving ever alone. I'm cooking as usual, but a much smaller turkey and no candied sweetpotaoes, just turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, busicuts, a few extras like olives and cranberry sauce. We are going to eat in the family room on a portable table, but I will put on a table cloth and set out my fine china, maybe light a couple of candles. I'm looking forward to it since I didn't have to clean the house and wax floors todays. Yeah! Just us!

We are going to my in-laws place, where it'll be a small family gathering; just in-laws, BIL, us and my hubby's aunt and uncle, so just 7 of us. My MIL is making most of the fixings, but I am bringing two fruit salads; our old stand-by 5-cup fruit salad and another I just found the recipe for in the paper.

This is my 2nd Thanksgiving away from my family in Oregon. Last year, we were invited to the family dinner of one of our friends, which was nice.

This year, Deb and I will go out to eat (thinking Cracker Barrel for their Thanksgiving meal) then to a movie.

My family back home is still getting together for the day, but on a much smaller less formal basis, since my mom has been sick fighting colon cancer and has other health issues as well, so can't do any of the cooking like she has in the past.

I miss having the big feast on Thanksgiving (in fact Thanksgiving has always in the past been my favorite holiday), but I am so very thankful for Deb in my life that to spend the day with her is special, too!

We went to our veterinarians' home and had a great dinner with them, and a few of their family members.

Tomorrow, I hook up the trailer, and my brother and I head for Ann Arbor so he can go to THE game, then Sunday, we head through Detroit and pick up my new mini mare and bring her home. Very excited about this new addition to our farm.

I cooked. I do it every year and I have it down to a science. I make my pies on Wednesday. Then on Thursday I make everything else. We had blackberry and blueberry pancakes for breakfast. Then everything and I had plenty of time to play on the computer. As I was making my fruit salad I found out that someone couldn't make one this year. They also needed some marshmallows. I didn't have any to spair. So on my way over to their house I stopped and picked up a bag of marshmellows. When I went to their house and gave them what I had brought them, their moms face lit up. She sent me home with cheese, crackers and spinich dip with sour dough bread.

All in all it was a very good Thanksgiving Day.

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving!

kathryn--congrats!!

We're having our Thanksgiving tomorrow! My daughter had to work either Thanksgiving or Christmas, and asked which I wanted her for--and it is Christmas--hands down. So--she worked and everyone else could come Sunday too.
