So now that my little guy has shedded, is clipped and bathed, he's not the color I thought he was.

I've only had him about 3 months and I've been calling him a bay. Basically, he was a dark chestnut with black points, mane and tail. Looking at him now, he's a lighter shade of chestnut, has a black dorsal stripe, and there is black showing thru on his neck and rump. If he wasnt chestnut, he'd almost look buckskin. Is this a red dun? I googled red dun but the shade of red is much lighter than he is. I tried to take a picture showing the stripe and black showing thru but it didnt really show up well in the photos. Now I'm also wondering what breed could he be?

Could just be a smutty bay...can you put up some pics?

What colour are his sire and dam...that will prevent a lot of guessing too.

I guess he is a bay dun then, he looks pretty close to your pony Jill. Maybe just a *tad* bit redder. I tried to get pics but the dorsal stripe didnt show up too well, I'll try again. Thanks for posting the pic for reference,

Sounds like bay dun... This is a bay dun pony that we own for reference:
