I always grew up calling him a chestnut with flaxon mane and tail, though his mane and tail were very light and there was a smidge of black in the center of his tail. I have heard sorel and then there is this silver bay which I know little about. I imagine there should be more on the legs though when he was shed out he was a bit darker on his legs. Especially his knees. I was just wondering what you guys would call him.

Im still learning myself but in the second picture his legs look darker then his body so I would guess silver bay.

Yeah - he still has a bit of a winter coat but his legs did get darker (not tons) especially around the knees and hocks. He also had cute little white spots on his fetlocks and when he was trotting, they flashed like little blinkers of some sort and it was so cute!

I have a silver bay mare with a blaze and blue eyes that looks like like your boy. Funny--my girl's right eye gets runny too. I don't know what it is about those blue eyes but they are much more sensitive. I think it time to put the fly mask back on mine soon. Sigh.

I would love to see your little mare. Post an image if you can. I recently lost this little one quite unexpected in November. We hardly had time to start testing and fighting it before liver disease took him. He is bitterly missed. The blue eyes are a passion of mine truely. He was my muse and one day I will find a blue eyed horse again, though I know it will never be him. It will be loved. I know no pet can ever be replaced but a new one can get a chance to be loved too.

IM SO GLAD YOU POSTED A PICTURE OF YOUR MUSE, I THOUGHT HE WAS ABSOLUTLEY GORGEOUS,IT MUST BE HARD FOR YOU,

BUT I HAD TO POST BECAUSE I ALWAYS LIKED YOUR AVATAR

Thank you so much Shane. He was a wonderful wonderful boy. He taught me so much. He was a fancy boy and we both have 'watcheyes' hence my name, my connection to him and my OBSESSION with blue eyed horses. As soon as I am able to resposibly do so, I will get another one with those eyes. I think I have more pics of him somewhere. He has certianly inspired just about every artistic thing I do. This is a bad example but here is a horse I painted and you can see it has one blue eye.

here is a pic of McKeever that I am working on and it is not done at all. I still have to use my blending stump so the eyes look a bit off. ^^ But again you can see my focus.

My stuff tends to have Arabian influence...

In any case, my new babies are great. I love them loads. I just did another photo shoot with them and eventually will be able to get the film developed. They are so cute, especially the little girl. She follows me all over the place.

YEP......he was a gorgeous Silver Bay!

I am so sorry for your loss...what a pretty little boy you had!

I also love blue eyes. I had an all white mare with blue eyes (actually an app mare with no mottling and only a few faint spots) that I rehomed last year. Those blue eyes catch me every time!

Your little man definitely had strikingly blue eyes, and a beautiful soul behind them.

I'm so sorry he could not be with you longer.

I love blue eyes, but not all of them are so pretty, and the color of your horse's is my ideal.

I once had a bay appaloosa stallion that threw blue eyes. He had a beautiful blood bay filly with that same, sky blue color of eyes, but of course she was not mine.

Your stallion looked silver bay, and the white markings he had must have caused the blue eyes (not sure of the genetics behind it).

Gorgeous eyes! :new_shocked: I always thought only white or pinto horses have blue eyes.. I guess not!

LOVE the pics!

Watcheye - Beautiful drawing.. I wish I could draw just as good as you! (Well I cant even draw at all!) :bgrin

Thank you so much guys. I have a HUGE appriciation for him and all he has done for me. His loss was a big one and I dont know what I can do to thank him for everything so I am actually writing a book about him and all he has done for me. Perhaps I may publish it. It would have photography and art in it too. We shall see. Did the blue eyed bay filly with the Apy dad have a white tail and live in Texas? In any case, I will keep working hard in McKeevers memory.
