It has been almost a year since I got Misty and Josie!! They both just turned a year this past spring and time has really flown by!! I thought I would post a few new pictures especially of Misty to see what you all think! Someday I would like to show her probably just for fun but we shall see! For now I am just loving and spoiling both of them! They both are halter broke and will lead very nicely so they are learning some manners too!IMG_5366.JPGIMG_5342.JPG

You all are the experts and have some beautiful show horses so any advice or opinions I would welcome!!

I think they're looking great. Healthy, happy girls

You should definitely take Misty to some shows you would have so much fun!

I think they both are easy on the eyes!

If I were picking one to show in halter, I'd pick the 2nd, taller horse.

Also, I enjoyed horses just as much before we got into showing as afterwards, and it caused a lot less anxiety in me when I "just" had them really as pets that I could drive and enjoy as playmates. If I were a horse, that's the type I'd like to be

You could have fun either way, and they are both pretty, but for whatever it may be worth, showing horses can be an emotional roller coaster with a lot of time and money spent to get those ribbons. But once you start, so hard to stop!

Good luck and HAVE FUN!

Very cute girls. They are growing nicely. I think you'll have a great time with misty at some shows.

They are lovely both of them and you've taken such good care of them. I love seeing the photos of them and your wonderful barn too. You might want to start out by joining your local mini club and going to some fun shows. There are many classes and you can find the best match for your interests whether it's trail class or halter, etc. Here, we just had a fun mini show where the minis didn't even have to be registered. Mini people just came out, had a good time and enjoyed the horses. Local fairs are great places to try your hand at showing when you're beginning too. Also, you could register Misty in the Pinto Horse Association and have even more options.

Whatever you do, you'll have lots of fun!!

They look GREAT! Remember when you first got them.

To join a local club is a wonderful idea. We started to show minis this year ourselves. We had one or two with trainers in the past 5 years and this is the first year doing some showing ourselves. Good luck! You will be able to meet some wonderful people!!!

Thank you for all the compliments and wonderful advice!! I defiantly will look for a Miniature Club to connect with others and hopefully get some training advice! Then one day I hope I find my way to a show!!

One more question..... Do you think Misty is at a good weight for her age? Little Josie of course will always have the pot belly being a dwarf but I think she has a cute pot belly!!! Lol I guess I am just paranoid with all that I hear/read about horses that colic and founder among other issues. I have gone by the advice of my breeder as far as a feeding program. We are lucky here in my area as our Farmer Co-Op has an excellent feed that is developed at the Kentucky Equine Research Center and then made here!! It as gotten excellent reviews for both the big and mini horses! I also try to buy the best hay of a fine Orchard grass grown local and they both love it! I worm every nine weeks along with having their hooves checked and trimmed by a great farrier that absolutely LOVES both of them especially Josie!! He also does my breeder's minis and I think if I had not bought Josie he would have for sure!! He spends time after he is finished each time playing with them and always gives Josie a hug!

Well I think I have rattled on enough about my babies but I really love them and want to do the BEST job I can caring for them! Like I have said before I grew up with the big guys but I am new to minis, I did however do LOTS of reading/research before jumping in to get them! Even researched building a barn to suit my needs! Lol

MountainWoman, You suggested maybe registering Misty in the Pinto Horse Association. How would I go about doing that, can she be registered even though she is a mini? Where would I get the paper work from and is that all I would need? Thank, Julie

Just go to the Pinto association website, and you should find all the information and forms for registering that you would need; Pinto association is a color registry and they do have a mini division (might be lumped with pony, not sure, as I've not registered with them, just remember what others have said).

Here's their website: http://www.pinto.org/

Misty'sMom - TargetsMom, who is very active in PtHA can also give you advice and I know she would help you if you private messaged her. And yes, she can be registered even as a mini.

Misty is a beauty. You should show her! They look very well loved!

Thanks everyone!! I do love my girls!!! Hopefully one day I will get to show Misty even if it is just for fun!!
