I am trying to lose weight and need some good breakfast ideas. I have been on a cereal kick for the past 6 months but I'm not so sure that it's helping with the whole weight loss thing

I just switched to special k but I think I need to try a low carb approach for two weeks to ween myself off of sugar. So what has worked for you when you are trying to lose weight?

Thanks in advance

Lately, I've been eating the Fiberone breakfast bars when I have a really busy morning....oats & chocolate...they are filling...9 grams of Fiber.... To avoid carbs...I like the egg beaters scrambled with a low carb tortilla shell...

Kashi cereal, any type. I like the Go Lean Crunch and the strawberry fields.

Eggo low fat wheat waffles with low fat cream cheese or jelly.

1 egg on a toasted Arnold Sandwich Thin

Toasted Arnold Sandwich Thins with no sugar jelly

Fruit

Or think out side the box. Breakfast does not have to be breakfast foods. Eat anything you would eat for lunch or dinner for breakfast.

I am not a big morning eater in the first place, but I eat fruit I have a banana and maybe a few raspberries or strawberries. That fills me up. I've lost 20 lbs in the last 6 months or so. 110 here I come lol

Brandi -- I have seen pictures of you!!! I'd probably kill to be as thin as you are!!!!!!!!!!

I think there is some newer research that says to loose weight, it's actually helpful to have a breakfast with some carbs and some fat and protein (vs. low carb or low fat, etc.). I know if I eat that way for breakfast, I do stay full longer....

Also, those splenda or nutrasweet sweetened yogurts can help make me feel full and have only 80 calories (but a decent amount of protein). I test my sugar level A LOT each day and even tho those yogurts have about 12 carbs, they have nearly no effect on my blood sugar. I know from when I used to do low carb diets (before knowing I was diabetic), I had read some people feel the cultures in the sugar free yogurt negate somehow the carbs from the milk. I think there's something to that b/c if I had a glass of milk w/ the same number of carbs, it would impact my numbes.

Good luck, but like I said, you sure don't look like you need to worry about your weight!!!

I had my gallbladder out 3 weeks ago, and in that time, I lost 23 lbs. I am eating less than 20 grams of fat per day, but not counting calories. For breakfast, I have one cup of Kashi Go Lean Crunch, with some raisins on it, or a single serving of weight watchers instant oatmeal with raisins and a little splenda. I am not a breakfast person, and it gaged me to eat it at first, but I really think it is working. Remember, drink plenty of water, and whole grains and fiber is the key!

Good luck, I know it is hard work. I keep telling myself, I am not on a "diet", I am just eating healthy. It is woking. yay!

Thanks so much Jill but my body fat index says different lol

I am about 33% ALL fat which is REALLY bad. The trainer at the gym said that index is considered obeise

Plus everyone in my family has diabetes so I really need to watch my weight because of that. My grandma was just diagnosed with it and I don't want to be next. I only appear on the thinner side because I am so tall. I'm not looking to lose 50 lbs here but I really need to tone up and could stand to lose 15-20 lbs for sure. I am NOT going to get down to 145 like the trainer suggested. I don't think I have ever weighed that

Before my cruise this year I lost about 10 lbs. I am about 182 now but I would like to be around 170-175. I don't think that's asking for too much

I know I can't cut out carbs completely mainly because I don't have that kind of will power but I would like to cut a large chunk of them. Mainly the processed flour and sugars.

I am not good at eating breakfast either and have a hard time coming up with ideas that sound good to me early in the morning. Thanks for the tips guys. Keep em' coming if you have any others

Missy,

I don't know if you sent the pm yet but there isn't anything in my inbox. Just thought I'd let you know just in case it got lost in translation

I was eating Kashi GO LEAN cereal, but even with a 1 1/2 to 2 x serving, I was STARVING by lunch. I NEED a good, big breakfast. I researched a little and found that eating a hearty breakfast will keep you fuller, lessen snacking, give you more energy and actually help you lose weight. I'm now eating 2 eggs (from our chickens so they are MUCH lower in fat) scrambled with some mushroom and in one of my very favorite wraps, a Joseph's Whole Wheat & Flax LAVASH Bread and of course, my microwaved Jenni-O Turkey Bacon that is super low in fat! It's super filling and yummy!

I ate plain shredded wheat (not the sweet kind)for awhile and lost some. It was very bland for awhile. But after awhile I tasted the cereal better and it was good. I would sometimes add a banana.

I 'try' not to eat breakfast, as I am one of those that if I do eat one, I will be hungry for the rest of the day. If I can skip it, then I can nibble for the rest of my meals and be satisfied.

I eat no fat plain yogurt, frozen blueberries and Kashi blueberry cereal. I don't like eating first thing in the morning, so I get a tupperware container, put in a few spoonfuls of yogurt, add frozen blueberries, and then cereal on top with a little splenda. I don't stir it, just take it to work that way. After I have been at work for an hour or so I am ready to eat. By then the blueberries are defrosted and the cereal is still crunchy, then I stir and eat. It is very filling and I don't feel hungry right away. Also, there is a South Beach diet recipie for spinach quich cups that make a great breakfast.

How tall are you? You sound like me in that I am almost 6 feet tall. I had at one point reached 190 pounds and people still said that I was thin and didn't need to lose weight. But I was definitely on the upper end for my height/weight ideal. I went on the South Beach Diet and lost 30 pounds. I am now back up to about 170 and it is okay, but I would rather be about 160. To think in college I at one point weighed 128!!!! Too thin!!! And I didn't have to diet and I didn't have an eating disorder, I just never gained weight. It drove some of my friends that were always battleing their weight crazy. After I hit 30 I started putting on weight a little easier, and now with 40 just around the corner.......

I lost 65 lbs two years ago. My regular breakfast is a smoothie consisting of 1/2 c organic skim milk, 1 whole orange and one cup frozen mixed berries. There are a lot more rules I followed when I was loosing. Now I am maintaining and love this breakfast so much I still have it almost everyday. It gets me two of my three fruits per day.

WOW thanks for all the great ideas everyone!!!! I am not one that can skip breakfast these days. I had my gallbladder out a few years back and ever since I have to make sure and eat every two hours or so otherwise I get very nauseated and have severe chest pains. Up until my surgery I generally skipped breakfast. I really like having a smoothie in the morning but some of them can make me sick as well. Fried eggs tend to give me heartburn if I eat them first thing and some yogurts do the same. I did buy some plain yogurt because I had heard it was a great breakfast item but I haven't figured out what to do with it. It tastes horrible by itself. I have some breakfast recipes that are great for freezing so I think I will spend some time preparing those that way they are quick and easy.

I should mention that I have been swimming at least two times a week on the Master's adult swim team and I am trying to add in at least two classes a week at the gym. They, for some reason got rid of their step aerobics classes for now so I am going to try yoga and cycling I guess.

I am a big sugar eater so I am thinking if I can cut out a lot of it then I will start losing. I don't eat doughnuts and cookies all day but I do get Jamba Juice Matcha Green tea at least twice a week, eat fiber one bars (which are high in sugar), and various other snacks that are processed sugar. I am trying to train myself to grab for fruit instead of cookies, cakes, icecream, granola bars and other things packed with sugar. The cereal just adds to my daily sugar intake. Special K isn't so bad since I use a packet of equal but it doesn't stay with me at all.

I am a believer that sugar is addictive. I would rather wean myself off of it now and stay healthy rather than be my parents age struggling with diabetes the way the are

I have always wanted to do some commercial print modeling and people have told me I could do well in it. Unfortunately I have always had my weight as an excuse as to why I can't. I am 27 and if I am going to do something I should probably get going with it already. I am too old for high fashion and runway which I probably would have excelled at but your never too old for print ads. And if I have a goal maybe I can actually reach it this time

I eat either a 100 calorie low fat yogurt (I prefer Yoplait) or a 90 calorie Special K snack bar for breakfast.

By changing my eating habits and exercising I lost 35 lbs. and 3 sizes in 3 months.

Cup of oatmeal with few raisans, sprinkled with wheat germ. Keeps me full and energized. Side of cantaloupe or honeydew is good :)

Set small goals for yourself. My goal was 2 lbs. per week and I tried not to look beyond that. Most weeks I

lost 2-1/2 to 3.

Good luck!!
