I've seen this now a few times here and there and it just has me wondering.

Pardon my ignorance but I am not sure of the meaning.

If someone says they have primiative miniatures..........

I was assuming that it could mean that the minis are not of the refined, araby type, but rather the old style ponyish type? But just not sure.

Can someone clarify this for me?

Marty, the only way I have ever heard primitive in regards to horses used was when they were talking about a primitive dun, with zebra markings, and the cross, and cobwebbing. I've never heard it used any other way, but I guess it could be used in the way you describe.

Well the way you used it ,to me , it means that they are the old style miniatures. By that I mean short, thick, big boned and stocky.

The other way it could be used is to describe thier markings.

When I've heard the term used, it's been to describe color specifically dun factor. So, you could say DunIT has primative color, but he's not primative in type. I love primative color / markings and any horse is better w/ a stripe. We have four dun factor horses.

This is what comes to my mind.

Does this horse look familiar??? hehe

Marty, primitive markings usually means as in dun type zebra markings. I have a zedonk, which has markings, I will send you some pictures as soon as I get home, and then just visualize them on a mini.

It's a color term ONLY. It means strong dun factor...dorsal stripe, face webbing, zebra striping on legs, barring on the shoulder, black legs, black ear tips, et. It has NOTHING to do with body type...color only.

My stallion, Vegas, has all of the "primitive" markers.

Sorry to have been so ignorant!

Thanks for the information, now I know what it means.

Very nice Sandy! Yep that's Merry Beth's stripe alright. Seems I've got a couple of primitives in the barn now don't I ??? YIP YIP YIP!
