here are the pics of my car. I still get a panic attack looking at them. amazing kenny wasnt hurt since the air bags didnt go off. Guess we will never figure that one out. Its so cold out some of them came out funny. but you can see how the entire engine pushed back. suprising also that the windshield didnt break.

Oh my gosh! Thank goodness your son is okay! That's is very disturbing that the airbags did not deploy!!!

Amazing that Kenny was not hurt. He definaitely was riding with his guardian angel.

he definately had a guardian angel looking after him!!! everytime i look at the car im thankful all over again that he wasnt hurt. I do though think like Jill that it is disturbing that the airbags didnt deploy. the ins adjuster is coming today and i want to see what he thinks of that.

OMG!! Your son was very fortunate to come out of that wreck OK...I am also very disturbed by the fact that the airbags didnt deploy!! :new_shocked: :new_shocked:

My goodness, thank the Lord he was not hurt! That could have been so much worse, but a car can be replaced, and you still have what is most precious.

Last yr my dad was in an accident exactly like that exept he was in the semi. He was at the turnpike up here in NW ohio right where you come in from Indiana and he was in his semi, he was going only 25-35MPH and ran right into the back of another Semi. The whole engine came back into the truck cab and had acid all over the place. He had to crawl out the window (which was broke) and ended up getting cutt up so badly and also hit his had on the stiring wheel and got a huge gash on it.

Kenny deffently had an angel with him that day. That car gives me chills. Thank god he is okay

The sensors are usually low on the bumper for the airbags, your sons car took a high hit, but they still should have gone off. They work by a ball bearing type thing in a slot, when the vehicle has an impact it pushes the ball against the activator thingy LOL. Does that make sense? It is not the tech terms, but you get the idea of how they work? I am glad your son is OK!

That's amazing, Kay. It will be interesting to hear if there's a reason WHY the airbags didn't deploy........but I agree -- your son was being watched by his Angel that day!

Am so very sorry you and yours were in a car accident. Am very very glad you were not hurt!

Kaykay, we were in a wreck about 3 years ago and the airbags did deploy. Not sure it was the best thing after all, it broke my face in 5 places, broke the rearview mirror which put a large gash in my head, so large and deep it had to be stapled. I've always heard that airbags can be a large danger to people under 5'4, and that is my height. Of course, if it didn't deploy, I wonder if I would have had worse damage or less. My eye was blacked from the eye, down the neck and into my left breast. None of my injuries were life threatening, and the breaks were not displaced, so did not require surgery. The only lasting damage from all that was an area on my upper lip that is permanently semi-numb from nerve damage.

Oh! That is so scary to see. I am SO relieved that he's alright. Cars do come and go pretty darn easily, but you could never replace that precious man's health, and life. Give him a hug and just wait for the insurance guy to come and get you some money for a new car.

On the airbag thing, this is our truck three years ago after my husband rolled and flipped it 6 times:

03wreck.jpg

None of the airbags deployed. We were really concerned and upset about that (husband was not hurt except seatbelt rash and a slight head wound from bumping his head somewhere in the truck), but our tow driver friend tells us that most often when it doesn't go, it's not a true malfunction, it's the way they are designed to work, supposed to "know" the way the truck is shifting, and whether or not to go. This was confirmed by Ford representatives and the insurance adjusters. When he first left the road, the truck rolled to the left (driver's side), and then flipped end over end, rolling again side to side four more times and another flip at the end. If it had gone level and straight over, the airbags MIGHT have gone off had the truck suffered more of an intrusion into the cab right away.

This was a seven month old truck (F250), and had left the road at 95 mph. Sometimes we get so lucky.

I am so glad that Kenny was ok. I know how I would be if it had been MY Kenny, who is 17 and drives as well.

*hugs* for both of you.

the ins guy was just here and the car is a total loss. he said they would give me credit for the brand new tires. so thats good news. he also said for sure those air bags should have deployed. But i do know people who have been hurt by the airbags so maybe its just as well they didnt deploy?

kaykay, I'm SO glad Kenny came through this relatively unscathed 00 how terrifying!

I can't speak to the airbag issue, but looking at your photos, I'd say that little car took great care of your son...the crumple zones absorbed the impact, protecting the passenger compartment. What type of Pontiac is that?

susanne its a grand prix. i loved this car. drove like a dream and took very little gas. we have a big 4 wheel drive truck for farm stuff but i loved that i could run errands in this car for so little gas. Fran and I took a horse trip to illinois in it and only took one tank of gas to get there

the adjuster did say like you that you can easily see how the car was engineered to keep impacts from actually hitting people in the front seat.

Im going to try to buy another one depending on what check i get

thanks so much but just want to clarify it was my 17 yr old son not my hubby :bgrin

Glad to hear your son is fine.

My son was in an accident Wed at noon. He had his two year old in the car with him. Neither were hurt. A pick up truck ran a stop sign and hit them.

The damage to his car looks almost exactly like the damage to your car. His air bags did not go off either. The tow truck driver was surprised they did not go off but then again a pick up bumper hits over a car bumper.

His car was not totaled and is going to be repaired. It is a 2004 Forester Subaru.

It takes so much running around and phone calls to get everything in line to get the work done.
