When some of the reality shows first came out I enjoyed some but now I feel this type of show is getting truly out of hand. What happened to the creativity, etc. the truly good shows seem to be a thing of the past.

They cetainly have one for just about everyting. I was never into the ones that centered just around people and relationships, say like Jersey shore, but I do like the ones like Deadliest Catch, American Pickers, Pawn Stars. There are tons of those out there now...ax men, swamp loggers....saw a new one the other day called American Diggers and it was suppose to be about metal detecting (which my husband likes to do), it was just awful.....not sure what I expected, I mean how exciting could it possibly be....the detector beeps, you did a hole and you find......usually a bottle cap...lol.

The show did TRY to make it interesting but it just turned out kinda sappy....they did OF CO

URSE find more interesting things than bottle caps, most of which looked 'planted'.

The reason I started the topic was they are starting a new one, heck can't remember the name, but the premise is travelers at an airport and what the go through, REALLY! Don't get me going about American Diggers. My grandaughter and I Love to metal detect. These guys give a bad name to those that enjoy the pastime. Oh and those housewives of wherever, pathetic, lol. I truly dislike The Bachelor, makes the women look like a bunch of manipulative loose women, lol. I could go on and on with most of these shows, Yes deadliest catch I enjoy and Long Island Medium.

Personally can't stand them. They are a waste of space....

Rather watch some good British TV, where they still know how to created good shows.

I like some reality shows... We don't miss Survivor and I'm looking forward to Big Brother this summer

I rarely even watch TV anymore, other than news, but love those two reality shows

I agree. Some of them are ridiculous.I watched 1 with some women catching wild hogs in Texas or Florida. They had on their salon nails. No way could those nails survive if they were really doing that stuff.I watch the Amazing Race mostly to see what tasks they do in other countries that are everyday chores for the native peoples.Last nigh I was watching and cheering against cry baby Rachel and Brandon team.He is either a saint or stupid to put up with her.I am expecting to see her on Dancing with the Stars.Hope they put her with Max.We love Dancing with the Stars.Even got my red neck significant other loving to watch it.He loves Swamp People and The Pickers. We both learn lots of history from the Pickers and Pawn Stars. There certainly are lots to choose from and a great variety, but some are really way out there and so out of touch with reality.I'd like to see a Survivor show in Alaska.I often think about that in the winter when we have been covered with several feet of snow for days on end. That would really be Survivor for some of those city kids.

Bevann they did have one a couple years ago in Alaska similiar to Survivor....I think it was called 'The Alaska Experiment'...it was pretty good.

I was saying the same thing Danielle. Seems like there is a multitude of "reality" shows for just about anything and everything!! I have watched a few...I like Idol, and like to watch a few of the others here and there. Chris is terrible for "channel surfing" so it is because of him that I know about all of them. We have watched some or all of one or more episodes of:

Survivor

The Bachelor

American Idol

The Voice

Gold Rush Alaska

Berring Sea (Gold)

Swamp Peopel

Cash Cab

Repo

Repo Games

American Pickers

Canadian Pickers

Hairy Bikers

Duck Dynasty

Ice Road Truckers

Pawn Stars

Cajun Pawn Stars

Storage Wars

Auction Wars?? (Gallery 66)

Moonshiners - Saw this for the first time the other night, and aid WHAT NEXT???!!! It makes you afraid to ask that question anymore!!

Jon and Kate plus Eight

and probably 20 more that I cannot think of right off the top of my head! LOL!

I like a few reality shows, those include, American Idol, Tanked and Pawn Stars. Honestly though, there are some pretty dumb ones out there....I mean really!?

Everyone has brought up some that I do enjoy. Tank, I love because I have aquariums and love fish. Cash cab can be fun to watch too. I guess the ones I truly don't enjoy are the ones that are so far fetched like all the housewives ones, seriously? These women all need psychiatrist, in my opinion, lol. They seem to thrive and love absolute chaos in relationships and I find them so, how can I put it, superficial individuals. They fret over the most stupid things and make a mountain out of a mole hill. Drama queens is what they are, ROFL. The Amazing race I usually watch but this year I missed probably 1/2 of the episodes and I missed last nights finally. The swamp people one, and the catching fish with your bare hands, just don't do it for me :). Now I see by the ads last night that the one with the guy with multiple wives is staring back up next week. Thank God it's summer and the nice weather is back as I watch very little t.v. in the summer, too much to do around our place. The only one that I truly don't want to miss is The Voice which is on Tuesday and Wednesday (last episode). I have no idea how they are going to pick the winner because all the singers that are left are all unique and AMAZING.

Oh I forgot to mention the really special one (being very sarcastic meaning I hate it), the American Gypsy one the British Gypsy one

Those outfits are pretty special don't ya think

How about the one that the contestants joust like knights on horses? Can't remember the name only saw it flipping through channels. What did you think of that one? Then I saw a commercial for it and one of the knights got kicked off for abusing one of the horses or something like that.

Oh yes, I saw the very first episode and wasn't impressed. I did however love the horses :-0). Probably the one that drives me absolutely around the bend is "Dance Moms" and the one with the little kids at these pageants. The kids are adorable but some are real brats but the mother's are "special". ROFLMAO. Perhaps the t.v. stations are catering to what people want to watch now on t.v. but being I am 57 I truly miss some of the great shows of the past, you know, the ones where a television writer had to write the script and we had true actors...

It's the same here in Australia.

Although a lot of the ones mentioned in Mona's list are new to me we have a lot of our own home grown reality shows plus a lot of American ones and a lot of Pommie ones. Love Escape to the Country and 60 Minute Makeover (both Pommie shows), The Block and My Kitchen Rules and Masterchef are great. Don't like all the Talent Shows where the judges think they are the true stars. Loved America's Next Top Model (and our own version). Over Dancing with the Stars (yours and ours). Love The Biggest Loser (ours).

Heavens I thought I didn't watch reality shows but it seems I do. Shame on me.

You know I bet if we put our minds to it we could get a list of 50 or more. Let's not. Too scarey.

All time favourite and never miss......... Survivor.

How true! Since I posted I have either thought of several more that I forgot to add, or some others that have been mentioned here that I have watched but forgot to add to my list when I posted!

I used to enjoy American Idol but got really tired of Paula's ravings & quit watching it. I don't like any of the judges now so haven't gone back to it since Paula is gone. I always enjoyed the So You Think You Can Dance auditions but usually quit watching it once they were into the top 20. I enjoyed Dancing With The Stars, more some seasons than others, but this time around our channel isn't carrying so we haven't been watching. I do enjoy the Amazing Race--I like seeing the contestants do some of the roadblocks and detours. It's kind of neat to see some of the things people do in other countries, and some of the contestants' attempts at whatever the challenge is can be quite amusing. I especially like seeing all the places in this world that I have never been to--places I will NEVER see, many of them places that I would never want to visit. It's still interesting to see those places. Last year I watched Love in the Wild (not sure why) and that other one, I forget what it was called; teams of 3 were competing and the one team had a blind fellow on it--I think they finished 2nd. I found it remarkable that a blind person would tackle all of the things that Eric managed to do in that competition!

All those other shows listed earlier in this thread--I have never seen them, and it really doesn't sound like I've been missing much!!

I feel reality TV has its place, but it seems that it too often highlights the worst in people, and sometimes in humanity in general. There's definitely an allure to the reality TV shows, I can see why they're as big as they are, but I myself would rather watch fictional TV. American Idol did have some great moments though, I was a big fan of the two Davids (Archuleta and Cook).
