What is everyone's idea of good communication from a transporter??

Would you want to know BEFORE the horse was picked up, and maybe a few updates along the way??

Or is it just when on the trailer and a bit before it is dropped off??

As the recipient, I know that I would like an update or two on the road, as it is very nice for your stretched nerves. Also, if the trip is going to be overnight, a call the evening before they are to deliver the horse with an *approximate* time that they will be at your place for drop off (morning, noontime, evening, nighttime). Ideally, I would like to have a call about an hour or so before they get to your place so that you can be watching and waiting for them. I understand that they are driving, and taking care of their precious passengers, but as the "New Mommy", waiting for that tiny bundle of joy, I like to know where they are, and that everything is okay!

Well I just recieved my precious little bundle last night (Geshan) and he came on 4-STAR Transport! They were beyond great. When they arrived at the pick up farm in Florida she emailed the seller and told her that they were the nicest people and had a beautiful stall for him and that she was very impressed. The shipper emailed me to tell me that they had picked up. Called that night with an update, emailed the next morning to let me know where they were. Emailed that night at the layover to let me know how he was doing. Emailed the next morning that he was on his way and then later in the day yesterday emailed to say that the truck would be here around midnight but that if it was too late they could deliver early morning. I emailed them directions and told them to come here as soon as they got in town. The truck got here around 1 am and my little boy looked happy as could be, very clean trailer, might add the driver smelled very nice as well! It was a great shipping experience and I would recommend the as the best transport company I have used. They were very sensitive to my needs and what I expected. Thank you 4-STAR TRANSPORT.

The only professional transport we have ever used is IHT--they haul east & west across Canada so with them it's pretty much a straight through run. That being the case, I like to hear from them after they've picked the horse up, and at that point they tell me where their next stop is/how many stops there are in that city--if it is only one stop they can usually give me their ETA in this call. If, however, they have several stops to make in one area they have no way of knowing just how long it will take them. For instance, the one time they picked up our horse in Lloydminster; they called to say that he was on the truck, and they expected to be in Regina by a certain time. From there they had to make stops at 3 different barns and they weren't just sure what time they'd get back on the road. That time they called again when they were leaving Regina, and from there we knew they would be driving in here in about 4 hours. The next time they called they were just turning off the TransCanada Hwy, 4 miles from our place.

Obviously if between here & Regina they had problems & were delayed for any reason I would expect a call to let us know it was going to be 6 hours, not 4, before they got here.

Actually, I should say that when it comes to phone calls regarding the location of the horse along the way, the IHT drivers usually call in to their dispatcher & give him the info, then he calls the owners. The last call, when the truck is practically here, comes from the drivers.

I think good communications is:

First of all call and let you know that they got the horse, second I think a call half way or overnight calls is decent of them, and finially a call like 30 min. before they deliver is good IMO. I would want them to focous on their jobs than be worrying about calling you. However if something goes wrong with the truck or equipment and is going to delay them somewhat than they should call, or if anything is wrong with the horse.

Now if they are coming to pick up a horse a call to let them them know that they are either running behind or on schedule, and 30 min. before pick up.

Lack of communication totally is not good, but don't expect a call every hour.

For me it is a call once the horse is picked up (or the next day if picked up late at nite) and then a call every other day to let me know how the horse is and there time frame for delivery. As well as any delays or anything out of the ordinary they run into
