This is a thing I need to know more about, i love keeping the furry kids chubby for winter but not too much, but when summer comes and they're in fit condition should you be able to see their tummys hanging out the sides when looking from back on?

It depends on how the horse is built and what you are seeing, but in general no. On a horse with well spring ribs you might see a tiny bit of their side when looking from behind but no large bulges, in my opinion.

They should have a waist, so no bulges from behind (brood mares an obvious exception!). Their flank should blend smoothly into the hip with no hip bone sticking out, but the belly shouldn't be wider than the hip. From the side, the belly shouldn't hang lower than the sternum (where the girth or cinch goes).

thanks, perfect description
