I agree with Michelle as to "how" a stallion lease originates and develops. That said, I went to your site to see what, if anything, I would feel about leasing him.....just for background
. Now, personally, I'd be looking at his brother !
: And, yes, I do realize he is in show shape and the little one is not, still --- he is the more powerfully presenced of the two.
Back to the original question -- what to charge -- I'd be wanting to see foals from him, do you have any? A proven producer of type & quality would be worth more....not just money but whatever the consideration is, traded "anything". It would be important to see a consistancy that I wanted to reproduce, or hope to, to make me want to lease (or buy) and that would be #1 consideration. Does this person have a stallion already? That would be a thing to consider both with facility, mangement and with reasons for leasing. You do have a breeding fee listed, of course that includes your own full upkeep, so moderate that if you go with a "per bred mare" idea. If you have no or few foals and the other farm have several nice mares, it could be a good time to see what this guy can do (or not
: ) and that is a value to you that could be better than you think. So, goals of both need to be thought out.
I'd make a "pro/con" list and try to keep it reasonable.
I've seen situations where an owner really needed a good location to keep their animal for a time and it was worth everything for that (saved board, etc). You don't have that situation, it appears but, you may get more than you money's worth if they deal is sweet enough for you both. If the idea is to produce small because he is, well it may or may not work out that way -- his genetics are not as small as he, the background does play a part in what is produced, of this I am certain. Again...foals on ground? Good to help make decisions. OK, I'm adding quite a bit of thoughts as to WHY I'd want to lease a stallion but, you need to know those thoughts to be making an informed and fair decision if you want to lease him out to another.
Don't forget that if you do just "lease him" openly, they could use him for outside mares if not restricted....if this is not a concern, fine. What I'm saying is that specifics need to be considered.
Good luck and be sure all details are in writing.
