I have just run out of my whitening shampoo I used to use 20 yrs ago on my QH's. I had 5 gallons of it and it has taken 3 years to go thru it with the minis and now I am out. The label peeled off and I cannot remember the name for my life. I think the 16 oz bottles were tan in color with a purple lettering. the shampoo was really purple in color too. what do they have out there that works. I forgot mine while attending a 4 day show and used someone's shampoo, it was horrible, might have well just washed them with plain water. I now have 2 horses that require a whitening shampoo and lots of it. Any suggestions/ success stories with a whitener would be very helpful. thanks

I can't say which is the best, but I have one I really like & so have had no reason to go looking for a better product. I've been using SuperPoo shampoo and for the tough stains and extra whitening I use the ShowClean (both are Absorbine products). I showed 2 palominos this year and that combo got them both sparkling clean with snow white mane & tails.

My personal favorite is Quick Color. I like it better than Quick Silver. Seems to really pop the white and also brings out the color too. I know a lot of people like the Ultra products too.

Quik Silver is #1 as far as whitening, but if you are wanting to get a horse clean use Mane and Tail.

I (unfortunately) have gray hair. I use a product called So Silver. It is made by a company called Matrix and is sold at the beauty salon in Walmart Superstores. You can also purchase it over the internet. Just Google "Matrix So Silver." This stuff is fantastic. I think it is about $10 for a bottleat Walmart. Sometimes my hair gets a slight yellowish tint to it, and So Silver makes it glisten. I have had several pintos in the past, and it whitened them up quite nicely. I have used Quic Silver, and I honestly believe So Silver is better. It will even brighten up flaxen manes and tails. I hope this helps.

I wouldn't mind trying "So Silver". Next time I go to Wal-mart I will get some! Actually, most dog show people prefer some of the human products! It won't bother me to try it!!!!!

Thanks, Starkadator!

Well, we have tried everything under the sun for white colored horses. We now use only BLUE DAWN dish soap -- it is fantastic & runs under $3.00/bottle.

Our pintos gleam & Filipowicz Grand Finale has a pure white tail & mane. At the area 2 show in Ahsland we had many, many people come up & ask us what we used to get their white to glisten like it does. That is our answer.

I recently tried Cowboy Magic "Yellow Out" shampoo and I think it worked very well. My silver dapple mare's tail went from rusty orange pee-stained to silvery flaxen with just a hint of orange yellow at the bottom in just one wash session (two shampoos with rinse).

I am going to be one of those people and go against the QuickSilver shampoos. Never did like them.

One of the products I like is the Snow White Vanilla shampoo by Oster. It really does make them white and they smell really good afterwards. Another shampoo Oster has is the Berry Fresh All-Purpose shampoo. It really brought out the color of my friends pinto filly.

One more for you:

Double K's "White Knight" worked really well, smells wonderful and is very concentrated so will last a long time.

SUPERPOO!!! i love superpoo, it sounds funny but that stuff works! on all colours! i have a dark buckskin and it works, i used to show a gray gelding and it worked on him great to! it smells good too!

I have tried everything under the sun (as a dog groomer) and the cheapest and best stuff I found at Sallys Beauty Supply is a generic of Clairol's Glimmering Lights ( http://www.sallybeauty.com/GVP-Shimmer-Lig...?cgid=Hair01-05 ). It is a dark purple shampoo that works wonders! Sadly it only comes in 16 oz bottles but only costs about $4 a bottle. I have used it on my all the white on all my horses, several show dogs (poodles and cockers ) and just about every white dog that comes into my shop for a haircut.

Good luck

Tammy

I use all the Double K shampoo's and love them all, especially the "White Knight" shampoo for my pinto's with white manes and tails. It also repels stains from setting and doesn't dry out the hair like Quick Silver and Quick Color shampoo does and rinses out well. I used the Quick Silver and the other brands and they dried out the hair too much and actually broke the hair off so I switched to the Double K line, much better quality for the money and they smell fresh too and a bottle lasts alot longer than others and it helps that way as well since we show both miniatures and shetlands and that is alot of horses to get ready for the showring.

I ran out of horse shampoo while bathing 7 horses for a show. I had my white colored mare left. Believe it or not, Pert Plus made her the cleanest she's ever been! I've been using Pert Plus on my light colored horses since. It worked better then the whitning horse shampoo, rinsed out easily, and really cleans.

Well Jen, thats dang interesting! I wonder why?? I'm a dog groomer and we are really into shampoos! LOL!!! The Double K shampoos are very popular with the groomers and I thought I'd heard everything about most people shampoos out there. I've never heard a thing about Pert plus!

Interesting.........

Like Tammy, I use Clairol Shimmer Lights or the generic version as it's cheaper. Works as good as anything I've found.

I see our favorite has not been mentioned. On my palomino and our pintos we use Wisk. Yep thats right. On the pinto's we only use it on the white areas. You would not believe how white they get. We have had many people ask us how we did it and can't believe what we use. When I was first given the tip I was worried about skin irritation. We have never had a problem. We rub it in real good and then wash it off right away. I wouldn't let it sit for any period of time just in case. I have bathed with many shampoos that have already been mentioned for the whole body and then gone back with wisk on the white and it is a night and day difference. The horse I thought was clean was far from it.
