Update on ::: We did not sell our Registered Paso Fino 3 year old Filly, ( for the price we where asking, but have her with a Paso Fino Trainer about 1.5 hours away to break her and use her for next years shows at no cost. Great Deal for my daughter and her fiance which is getting married next July and after that will have two Paso Finos for riding. They have decided this route since if you's recal my daughter got back her 17 year old Mare after being sold 3 years ago. Just could not see her sold again, wanted her back. Has had her to two shows and been on a few trail rides.

How is the rest doing since the market has fallen with the big horses?

I had to drop the prices on all if my horses.

I have a 3 year old green broke double registered driving gelding that I haven't been able to move at $800 so I am thinking of quadrupling his price and working him through the winter and getting him to some shows. I don't really get it, maybe people think there is something wrong with him at that price? who knows.

I still have 2 colts from 2005 for sale. Not too many inquiries on them. Come first frost they're both getting gelded! Then I'm thinking about leasing them to students in the equestrian teams that start up in Dec. They do in-hand trail with the minis and it's becoming more popular. I think it will be a win-win for me as they'll get taken care of and handled.....and hopefully someone will buy them! :bgrin I'm looking forward to this coming foal crop as it will be Heir's first foals!

I sold my two fillies, a yearling and a weanling. $2300 avg. I think I did underprice the weanling a lot, looking at how she's maturing, but I was scared she would be too small for breeding/performance.

Anyway, I do have the one weanling colt destined to be a jr. gelding as soon as they "come down" but I'm fine with that as I want him gelded before he leaves anyway, and I will have a GREAT TIME and earn some MoooLa! Showing him next year also. I am raising his price to sort of assure that noone grabs him up since he'll be a performance horse with a good chance in halter, too, also I will be putting more training into him as well as gelding him.

:D

Hmmm, we had no problem selling some of our big horses this year at all.

I had two colts this year- one is sold and the other was just weaned so is ready now.

Did you get a good Price?, a lot find the prices have fallen?

I still have the one foal for sale. He's a nice shetland colt and would make an awesome gelding. But, it's ok cause I would like to show him a little this fall and see how he does. It's important to me that the few horses I sell (and he would be the first one for me to sell and the first one with my name) that they go to home that will show them. So, if I have to hang on to him for a little while that's ok. I'll show him and if he does well (he should do really well as a gelding) his price will just go up.

I agree, I wish more would show than trying to make the big bucks in breeding

The big horses were sold at their asking prices- and I thought they were quite fair market value. One mare and her filly (the mare is broke for anyone to ride and is sound) was sold for $4K and they are not registered! Two were registered Arabians and one was a POA filly. None of their prices were reduced. I think the cheapest one sold was for $2500.

You did great, here in Ontario the bigger horses have taken a big drop in price.

Even at Carson's Action are going low. A Well broke riding Registered Quarter Horse lucky to get $1000.00

I have been told. Everyone keeps hoping the market will change. :new_shocked:

Well I didn't sell mine, I ended up trading them. Having back surgery at the end of the year so I have to get down to a minimum because hubby just doesn't take that good care of them and I don't have help SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, traded my stallion for a parrot, traded my white mare for an above ground pool with deck and traded my red gelding for training on my 2 year old pony and retraining on my big paso but all my horses are going to great homes so feel happy and sad. I do have my mare and colt up for sale and don't really have any bites so they'll probably stay here and colt gelded aww well market is down though so I'm keeping the rest and just hobble around after surgery.

I had a 2005 pintaloosa colt for sale all year, finally had him gelded in August and he sold one week later! Guess I should have gelded him in the spring when I first wanted to! He was AMHR only, and sold for $750, thought that was fair for this year and my area.

I've had a 2006 filly for sale, priced originally for $2500, have taken her price down to $1500 since she is growing and will probably outgrow her AMHA papers. I'm fine with keeping her until next year, I'd like to see how she matures and might keep her instead of another filly I have, so I'm not complaining at this point!

Had another 2 year old filly for sale too most of this year, I have lowered her price, but didn't want to sell her real bad either, so I'm okay with her not selling.

I have an easier time selling colts/geldings than I do my fillies, the fillies seem to always sell the spring of their yearling year, I sure haven't figured out why yet! Anyone have a "tip" for selling fillies, I always thought they would be easier to sell than the boys!

My farm has done pretty well. I haven't advertised except for my web site. We had 30 foals this year, three turned out to be pet quality and were found great homes. Seventeen have been sold and I have ten left, three of which are too young to leave just yet. The market in VA has been pretty good and I hope to have the rest of the babies sold by next season. They did bring close to their asking prices. I'm also seriously considering retirement which will mean moving and selling about half my herd. There are some I just never could part with. It's going to be a very hard decision as to who stays and who goes.

Well I have not sold all mine. And the few I have sold were the lower priced pet quailty one and even at reduced prices.

I'm at the point now where I will have to drop prices again. if I want to sell before winter.Right now I think I'll hold frim and winter them. And hope to find them homes come spring..

I was hoping to do some upgrading on the barn ect. But when prices are so low that will have to wait.

Here the prices of horses big and small are rock bottom..

I have freind with some wnderful ridnng horse for sale and she is to the piont where she my have to GIVE them away. Here you can buy a well broke saddle horse or under $500 amywhere.. foals are going for $100 with papers!!

i was just offered 2 bred mares for $175 each or $275 if I take them both.. they are bred to a donkey... mini mules  I'm really thinking on them. But do not really need or want more mares.

Wow, those are TERRIBLE prices in some areas!! Here for a good broke QH- with papers, you will probably still pay at least a couple of thousand and up.... depending. You can find foals for around a thousand or so but it looks like the average horse in the paper here is about $2500 to $3000.00- many higher. These are full sized horses though, not including Minis.

Sold the TWH for what I asked.... none of our babies have sold. Actually, one WAS sold and the buyer backed out. Did sell a colt, filly and mare earlier this year, but that's been it. LOTS of inquiries, but everyone wants the cheap $300 mini.

Since we sold most of our broodmares we only had one broodmare left to foal this year............. Sugar Baby (avatar) is our only foal this year & honestly I don't care if she sells or not - shes my foal fix!........... I did lower the prices on our two yearling colts but got them into good homes & that is what counts in my book.

I know Michelle does, as I've taken to stalking her website. ( ) And Shakira's for sale. So i'm happy. Where to find 2.5k is kinda a problem, though...And a stable would be rather nice...

This year I have sold 2 mares and got asking price. I haven't advertised my 2005 colt or 2006 colt yet as I haven't taken any pictures since they were born.
default_wacko.png
: I still have 4 mares (don't really care if I sell one of them or not), 2 stallions (hard time parting with either of them.) I can't complain too much as I just started doing a little advertising in the last month.

The 2 fillies from this year I am keeping, one of them for sure.

I have two non-breeding mares that I have been trying to sell at a give away price and no one wants them. Is $500 too much for two (as in the pair) non breeding mares? I have A LOT more in them. GEESH!
