I hate to say it, but this HAS to be a hoax. How many of you have seen a kitten no older than a day with huge eyes that is wide open like that? My boyfriend showed me this story but the picture looks VERY fake, no matter what the article says. C'mon... we are animal people here and have some perspective... kttens are not born with their eyes wide open...

I hadn't heard about that. I would have thought I'd have seen something in our local paper (I live 15 min. from this woman and our paper covers all the news in the area). Very strange.

I'll admit, the first thing I thought when I saw the picture was "Hoax." Of course we know kittens are born with their eyes closed but the article does point to a very real defect that can cause the facial deformities this kitten had. This woman's camera was also looked at and the pictures of the kitten were on the photo card--not just downloaded to a computer, printed out, etc.. She is also reportedly keeping the body in her freezer for future scientific examination. I'm curious to find out if this is yet another news story that will be disproven like the house mouse that burned down a house and the woman who swallowed a cell phone in recent weeks...
: In the meantime I just thought I'd post as it was pretty bizarre and fascinating from a medical standpoint. :new_shocked:

As much as it does look fake....I am not so sure....a few years back we had a mini foal born with 4 eyes.
It had a normal eye on either side of it's head and 2 great big pretrudeing eyes right in the middle of it's forehead.
Plus it had 2 muzzles.
Believe me, it did't look real either!! We called it the alien baby.
