Why isn't there a Mini version of this?

Personally, I would never put one of those on my horses, no matter WHAT size they were.

I guess I can see the applications for indoor therapy miniature horse visits... but it's not THAT hard to clean up after them? You can easily tell when a horse has to urinate for the most part, too.

What application do you need one of those for?

Andrea

The word THESE in my 1st post is a link to the item.

Some indoor visitations can be quite strict in regards to possible soilage

and I think would be more open if both bases were covered (more than just assuring that the horse urinates on command which our guy does).

The other possible use would be during travel in a single vehicle.

I'm afraid that if it comes down to needing one of those in order to take my horse someplace, I simply would not bother taking him to that place! That product is just not something I want to use.

And they're promoting this for use in stabling, to make cleaning easier?? NO WAY.

So your horse would have to wear that contraption all day?? They say it does not spill and is not open.... but then how would a stallion or gelding be able to pee into it when they dropped to do so?? Far to easy to get a leg caught on if it was low enough to allow for that...

I can see it for medical reasons for a treatment - or maybe a modifed version for carriage horses (as if they do not have enough to deal with) ... but the rest? You only empty it twice a day??!!

That would not work for any horse I have ever had - large ones, anyway!

If it is not a joke in some aspects, I am completely baffled...

Yeah, I don't really think I'd be buying anything along those lines, either.

I'm pretty sure I've seen one of the mini vendors has a driving diaper, like for parades (but again, I don't plan to buy one).

I've seen other 'diapers' that are less ridiculous looking, but personally I wouldn't put any on my horses. Especially driving in a parade, all everyone would look at would be the contraption on the horse, not the beautiful animal itself. I wouldn't want to wear something that looked like that!

I really don't understand why you would put that on your horse all day for turnout in the stall, etc. as suggested by the first site. Really, getting out a pitchfork isn't THAT difficult.

Glad there is not a mini version! That looks like a pain in the butt! I would think having the weight swinging near the horse's legs would make him jumpy.

Mercy will tell me if she has to go and we go to the trailer during her visits. It makes taking her to nursing homes, schools and other events easy and there is no clean up on site. Now, if she could tell me how she figured out how to do this, I could be a trailer trainer.

I was thinking of how uncomfortable and annoying it must be to a horse to have that hanging underneath him--bad enough standing, but when he has to be moving...? It would be even worse once the horse had to wear it awhile and it got even half full--that would be heavy.

There are venues which won't allow horses unless they are wearing the 'standard', poop-catching, bags (horse 'diapers'), and I've contemplated buying a mini-sized one, just so I might be able to 'go there' if I wished, but I can't see this contraption being acceptable to most horses. Even if you can acclimate the horse to the EMPTY thing hanging and bumping under its belly/between its hind legs, it would immediately become heavy and unwieldy once the horse 'used' it...don't see most horses liking THAT!

Maybe under very specific circumstances this rig could be useful, but for 'everyday' or frequent use...I don't think so.

Anywhere my horse had to wear one of those is not a place I would wish to go...blimey, they would be welcome at the Palace without one, so I guess , as far as I am concerned anyway, that about covers the "everywhere I would wish to go" bit!!!

Sorry, six star, we aren't having a go at you personally, I just think it has to be the daftest, most uncomfortable and ugliest contraption I have ever seen.

After my horses had finished curling up and dying laughing I know where they would tell me to put it and I would not need an interpreter

Personally I wouldn't use one either

BUT

not that I have a THING against driving...love it myself....for those that hate this contraption.....if you took a horse to a nursing home once a month and a horse had to wear it for an hour...what about the driving horses that have all of that hanging on it's sides plus the shafts, and the cart, harness, bit in it's mouth, check being used, driving in a few classes when it is 95 degrees out in the deep sand, That isn't lets say......uncomfortable? For those that drive "properly" and it is not uncomfortable, I hardly think this would be. Just a thought......I have one of those from time to time.

Riverwood, I complain about that all the time!

Checks and deep sand should never mix, me and driving in 95 degree ANYTHING never mix, and I complain bitterly about having to use a check at all! *snicker* As for the rest of it, well...let me just say that any harness that goes on my horse better not be heavy and swinging and certainly shouldn't be between his legs!

I too cannot imagine using this contraption. My horse is not about to pee on a hard surface unless I completely ignore every signal he's giving me for hours on end and if so, I deserve what I get. Heck, if he's on the porch being clipped or in a building giving a demonstration he even lets me know when he needs to poop so I can take him out! I would use a Bun Bag for therapy work because he will poop without warning when he gets nervous but that's about it.

Just think of all the back problems you could give a big horse having to carry around all that wet weight all day!

I can barely move the wheelbarrow some nights and they want me to strap that to his neck?? Plus, what about the ammonia odors and attracting flies? Poor horse.

Strange world we live in!
