to see what damage we'll have when it's over. It's been gusting upwards of 80 mph, hanging mostly with gusts around 70 for the last couple hours.

We only get winds like this a few times a year and I'm always thankful it's just wind. Not like it's a hurricane where you've got the nasty wind the the flooding rains. But the wind still does a lot of damage all on it's own.

Oh. loverly, I mention rain, and now it's started to pelt rain into the window! LOL! Guess I'll keep my mouth shut now!

Kathy! This is my second attempt to post.....lost power for a minute.

You beat me to posting, btw. I was going to start a threat entitled: "I HATE WIND!"

I am trying to fill over a dozen water troughs around the property in this stuff -- wearing my sunglasses so that stuff doesn't blow into my eyes, and ducking from flying branches.

You know those wonderful old Willow Trees we have front and back of the house????

Well.......They are getting pruned by the wind gusts.

Guess we shouldn't complain because I know this is nothing compared to the recent hurricanes others have had to deal with....... eh?

Hang in there!

That's for sure! I try not to complain about things too much, but wind has always been one of my pet peeves.

I'll take rain over wind ANY day.

I filled my troughs this morning BEFORE the wind. Well, I was out there a few minutes ago (we were having a lull, so I went to check on the goats) and looks like I'll be emptying them and filling them again after this wind is done. The water is dark brown!!! Ugh. I dislike filling them in the first place, so to do it twice in one day is a pain. I WAS going to get our plumbing done in the barn today (didn't get to it this weekend), but with the gusts, I just can't do it today.

Man, I hope your trees survive with minimal damage. They are sooooooo gorgeous. We were driving by an old homestead with a massive willow the other day and I told John how much I wished we could find a nice property with a grand old willow like that. Around here they are few and far between.

Well, the lull is over

Just waiting for my power to go out too. I know it went out in town for a short while this morning.

Hang tough, and hope your fence survives this wind this time

The FENCE??

Oh don't remind me!

I just finished watering.....counted how many troughs .....TWENTY!

Just was noticing how different horses react to this wind.....Some are hunkered down either in a shed or behind a wind barrier and others don't give a rip. Interesting......

All the babies have access to the barn (I've closed the big main door) and they are all outside running and scuffling with eachother in it!

Was wondering, Kathy, where did you find out about how high our winds are? I've tried to get a reading online and can't find any info.

Well, there is a site http://www.wunderground.com/US/OR/bend.html I use sometimes. But there is also a gentlemen who lives on our street with a weather station (his hobby) and I heard from my neighbor who'd just checked with him. We only had a few gusts that were 79 mph, quite a few in the 65-75 range. That site is based in Glacier Ridge in Bend, but I'm not quite sure where that is. I think I saw it get up to 63 mph on the website.

Guess I need to check with YOU when we get another wind storm!

Any online weather we get is pathetic!

(Thank for the site info.)

MA, did you guys suffer any damage?

John did a walk around the property around 4:30 and didn't find anything too serious. Just stuff that had blown around, but no broken branches this time.

Oh boy, it was bad today wasn't it? And a repeat of yesterday too. I actually had part of the wall come off of one of our horse shelters. Why does this stuff always happen when my husband is gone? All this wind has been keeping me up at night too. It has been balmy though, in the 60s and now they are talking snow by the end of the week.

I kept thinking we had moved to Florida and now I feel like we might be flying to the North Pole by the weekend.

Hope you both faired ok these last couple of days.

No serious damage here......

Like you, things blown around. We lost a few limbs, but they didn't land on anything.

My only worry was when the metal roof on Larry's work shed started popping up and banging..... Then Larry (with his bad back) climbed a ladder and put in some screws with a power drill -- with the wind whipping all around! Scared me to death! But at least the roof was safe after that.
