WHEW, BOY DO THESE GUYS STINK. PEE & POOP. TUESDAY WE HAVE TO GO TO A SCHOOL WITH TWO MINIS. I NEED SUGGESTIONS TO HELP GET THE STINK OFF AND CLEAN THEM UP MONDAY. ABOUT 60 KIDS WILL BE PETTING AND TOUCHING.

I KNOW BABY POWDER, BUT THAT WON'T QUITE GET RID OF THE STRONG ODORS.

THANKS FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS.

I use my little Shark Vac. Just gets the dirt, not the smell.

Heck Sandy, the smell is have the fun of getting to pet one of these guys,,,,,,,,,especially this time of year!

Can you put these two together, put tons of bedding down, it will help absorb, and then they'll smell like pine!!!!!!!!!

There are two waterless shampoos for horses.

The powder one works well if the horses aren't wet. And they will smell really nice when you are done.

The spray on ones will only get the top coat clean and they will smell better. But you have to be able to rub towels all over them.

Takes a little time but well worth it either way.

Go to your local larger pet store (petsmart or petco) and get a product for dogs called "Fresh & Clean" It is a little costly--about $10 to $12 for a 12 oz can, but it is a deoderizer and works great. I use it all the time when I go places. Just don't forget to spray their underside and rub it into the hair all around. It does make the coat a little wet, so it is good to do it about an hour ahead of time to let it dry. It has a distinct smell, but that goes away a little and the deoderizing effect lasts a good long while. I do avoid the face though. Llamas have a really distinct odor (think smelly sweat socks in a gym bag for a week or two) and it has worked well on them also.

Forgot to tell you that I vacumn well and curry all the mud clumps loose. Everyone likes the fuzzy look in the winter and vacumning seems to make them soft.

If you spray them down REALLY, REALLY well with show sheen and THEN put them in a clean, bedded stall, they will be a lot cleaner the next morning, I promise

Shop vacs do also help to blow off the stink after spraying down. Just be careful if you use a small handheld vac. Mane gets wrapped up ZIP and the horse and the vaccuum both get pretty PO'd.

Shop Vac for all the loose stuff on them..... and I am a major advocate for Miracle Groom as a "dry" cleaner!

I agree with all the cleaning suggestions here.......vacuums and products....the day before then put them in stalls for the night with LOTS of fresh pine shavings. I'ts amazing how those pine shavings will get the last of the smell and dirt off... then vacuum one last time to get dust off and they will be fresh and presentable!
