Hi Everyone,

Our little Mira is doing great! She plays, runs and has an attitude the size of a Belgian! :bgrin

We love her to pieces and it doesn't matter to us if she is a dwarf (or has dwarf-like characteristics) but was wondering what others thought. In some ways I think she has good conformation, but I'm wondering now about the size of her head compared to her body. Here are some pics:

Also, she's 4.5 weeks old now and she's just starting to get a couple of teeth coming in. Her "little" sister has 4 teeth already in. Also, Mira is still only 17" tall and weighs only 21lbs. Will she ever be "normal" sized or will she always be small? I measured her cannon bone to the top of her hoof and it's only 5.5". That puts her at about 24" at maturity. Is that possible?

Don't worry about saying something that you think may hurt my feelings. I love her regardless, I'm just trying to better understand what I have.

Thanks!

Small does not a dwarf make. She looks like a beautiful little filly with no dwarf characteristics to me.

I don't see any dwarf like characteristics. Her head doesn't look too big for her body to me, she has a real pretty head. Just because she is so small doesn't meen she has to be a dwarf. She is definitely NOT a dwarf.

Well, this is a relief!

: Not that it really makes a difference, but I guess the owner of her sire might have been less than pleased if she was a dwarf. It just seems to me that her head is a bit large and bulbous (sp?) looking. Maybe she'll grow into it. But for now, she's really pretty weird looking in that she just doesn't seem right - she's just way too small. I can still pick her up in my arms, which I do every day and will continue to do until I can't. She's spoiled rotten and is the peskiest mini we have! She has to be chewing on your pants or "grooming" your arms. And if you scratch her butt, then stop, she'll back up to you and fire with both barrels!! :new_shocked: It's cute now, but soon it won't be! :bgrin

Thanks everyone.

:saludando: Hi

Your baby is soooo very cute and looks fine to me. I would have never thought of her as a dwarf.

I think she is a nice little filly. With a very pretty head!!

Congrats!!

I agree with the rest, not a dwarf.

Very cute though!

I agree with Tony 100%. Small does not make a dwarf! She is adorable!

She looks perfect to me!!

It is too bad you like her so much!

I'm sure Tony or I would come take her from you in a heartbeat if you didn't. :))))

I don't think she's a dwarf either.. She may just need a little extra time to catch up

She;s a lovely little girl and I see no dwarf tendentcies in her at all. Enjoy her and watch her grow and mature and I think she will always be on the smaller side. Personally, I like the little ones best.

I sure don't see anything that makes me think she is a dwarf, although to me, very small stature is a bit of a caution as far as breeding goes, and presents its own problems, but that said, she looks nothing like a dwarf and yes, her head does look "odd" right now to you compared to a grown horse, but it will look nice enough, it is a nice foal head, the kind that ends up looking pretty when they're mature. They all look "odd" at first when you compare them to an adult horse, but they do grow into that.

There's just nothing I could pick out that says dwarf, and I kinda make a "hobby" of finding characteristics and researching where I can, dwarfism.

Very pretty girl!!!

She doesn't look at all dwarfy to me! And birth height doesn't always follow the charts! I think she's lovely :bgrin

I ditto all of the above --

She is adorable and NOT a dwarf.

And that kicking like that, most babies do it and they out grow it. Any time you tickle or play with the little butt, the little legs come up to kick, it's just the way it is. She's darling.

Thanks!

Hi. We had a 17" colt born last year and thought the same for a while. He was slow as he suffered oxygen deprivation at birth and it left him about three months behind with development. He was very similar to your filly in size/shape etc. He is now a VERY 'in your face' yearling and all of 25" :aktion033: Your filly is NOT a dwarf, and she is really cute.
