The AMHA Board and Executive Committee met Saturday evening to discuss the impact of Hurricane Rita on the 2005 World Championship Show. The Show is scheduled to start September 30, 2005 as planned and the Board members are anticipating a great show. Gas and diesel is readily available on routes in and out of the DFW area. (Gas is currently $2.79 in Fort Worth, and diesel is $2.89) Board members in the affected regions have reported that roads are clear for travel to Fort Worth. The Fort Worth area has had little environmental impact from Hurricane Rita and is still awaiting its first rain from the system. For members who are traveling and will pass through the Arkansas or Louisiana regions, please be check with local transportation authorities to ensure your route is clear.
Texas authorities have developed a four day plan for the return of Houston area evacuees. Many have already left the DFW area and Southbound traffic is now the busiest route on Texas highways. DFW officials are reporting that they expect the vast majority of Houston area evacuees to have returned prior to September 29. Most cities in the affected areas have begun to allow residents to return. Hotel rooms are available in the DFW area for check in as soon as today. The AMHA Official Hotels all have available rooms if you or someone you know is still looking for a place to stay and more information is available in the World Show Premium. Any members from the affected areas that will not be able to attend the World Show due to Hurricane impact are asked to contact the AMHA Office.
With the World Show only 6 days away, we wish everyone a safe trip and good luck to all competitors!
