No special meaning behind ours. Had been thinking of a name for about 3 years before we came up with it. Hubby and I were just driving in the car and I was throwing some names out there...he kept saying no to every name I thought of.. Finally we were driving by some woods and I just came up with River Wood out of the blue. He liked it and that was that :bgrin

My mother actually named our farm. She used to call daily and asked "How are all the little folks?"

Thus my farm name became "Little Folks Farm." This thread should be very interesting.

Sagebrush Miniatures

Where we live is a sandy place full of SAGEBRUSH. To get to our house you have to turn up Sagebrush road.......+ the initials of Sagebrush - SB are my initials. We plan to move to TX in a few years and the name can be moved with us.

My original name was thought up by one of my brothers - Little Green Apples......you have to think about it for a minute.

: The horses make "green apples" and miniatures make "little" ones..

mine's Casper Miniatures, after my baby.

my first mini was Ghost, and i bought her in foal. i wanted a cremello pinto baby, with a star, a snip, and 4 white socks. although the odds of getting it with that cross weren't great. i loved him more than anything even before he was born, and i loved his mama too. I knew what made him kick, or fall asleep, or "dance," or wake him up. i watched my little Ghost for 2 whole months, and she finally foaled in the rain so i missed it. well he was PERFECT, exactly what i wanted!

: he was the most beautiful thing ever. but he was gone, either stillborn or couldnt get out of the sac. Since it went with his Mama's name Ghost, and since he was such a beautiful off-white color, i named him Casper. which is ironic because my favorite show growing up was Casper the friendly Ghost.

So i got a baby to give Ghost to play with (the boy in my avvie) and named him Casper's Perfect Prince Charming (pending) just to name him after my boy. but i liked the way it sounds, and its a cool ranch name, since it goes with Ghost, who's now my main show pony. It's a special name, awe i miss my guy!

Mine is Shaladar.

Named after my most beloved Alaskan Malamutes, Shea and Aladar......long, long gone from us. I was Shaladar back when my daughter and I used to show Cavies and Rabbits, so it moved on to the Minis.

"Mountain Meadows" - we live in the foothills of the Cascade mountain range and have carved out our "meadows" from the surrounding forest - hence our name. After clearing our "meadows" it was a nice treat to have a wonderful view of Mt Rainier - so that kind of added icing to the cake so to speak.

Well we moved to our farm on a New Years Eve.As we looked over the snow covered fields New Years Day The name Snowy Acres came to mind. Also my wife Maureen is a big fan of the Snowy River movies.Hence the name Snowy Acres Miniature Horses

On Target Miniatures - named for our riding pinto "Target", who is the reason we got into minis in the first place. We bought the first one as a companion for him.

My husband and I have bred Golden Retrievers under the prefix Foxgold for many years, our foundation bitch was Goldendream's Foxy Lady aka Katie wigglebum and she was such a special girl we wanted to register our kennel name with a name to remind us of her always and because we bred goldens we added gold to Fox, then when we moved to the farm 5 1/2 years ago we decided to call it Foxgold Farm, Golden Retrievers and Miniature Horses. It is interesting to read what reasons other people had for coming up with their farm name :bgrin

Well ours is sort of a no brainer we live in Maine and we take Pride in our minis so the Farm Name Maine Pride Miniatures was born. The name I originally wanted was already taken so had to come up with a second one but now have Maine Pride regiestered with both registries.

Well our farm name is Mulligans Run.

We came up with the name because before we got into the minis we had a big horse farm. My dad got my mom a baby lamb and she named him Mulligan. He would follow her every where and would come when she called him. He wore a dog collar and would walk on a lesh. Anyway, one day we came home to find that he had been attacted by a pack of dogs. We rushed him to the vet but thier was just nothing we could do to save him so we took him home and buried him. My mom said that we would never forget him and that Mulligan would always Run on our Farm, so we named the farm in honor of him.....Mulligans Run Farm.

That is how we got our name.

Mulligans Run
That really choked me up, Shannon! Now, I will always remember why your farm has the name it does.

me too!!!!!

i'm gonna cheat because i have to leave work in 2 minutes... so i just copied the story from my website and here it is:

So many people have asked about the name of our ranch, I decided to put the story behind the name on the website. I could simply say, it's named after my horse (or horses)... but there's a lot more to it than that.

My first horse, years ago, was a gelding I bought as a green-broke 3-year-old, figuring we could train him up ourselves. Although Renegade was a beautiful horse - unusually colored and marked as he was a dun snowflake appaloosa - and he was a great ride with an awesome rocking horse slow lope when the girls and I went riding "just us", unfortunately whenever we rode in a large group with our club his behavior changed drastically in a negative way. He refused to stand still while I was mounting. He would not walk, but danced and pranced, trying to run when I wouldn't let him and not wanting to stop when I did let him run. He would rear up to show his frustration and even fell all the way over backwards once - luckily I fell to the side and not underneath him! I hoped to calm him with more miles but the older he got, the worse his behavior "in public". It was hard to reconcile his different behaviors - almost like he had a split personality. I couldn't bring myself to part with him since he was so good sometimes... one of his best points was his willingness to give his feet to be picked up - even anticipating which hoof I would be asking for next and having it up and ready for me. And he was gorgeous in a James Dean kind of "bad boy" way...

Randy and I hadn't been married long when he started asking me to sell my horse. "I know you love him", he said to me, "but if you will sell him before he hurts you, I PROMISE we will find you a GOOD horse!" It took him a while but I finally saw the sense in his suggestion - the older I got, the less willing I was to put up with the aching arms, shoulders and back after every club ride...it just wasn't enjoyable to fight with my horse for a 6-hour trail ride. So we put him up for sale and started our search for the promised "good" horse.

Long story short, an acquaintance was selling a 15-year-old retired roping horse so we went to try her. She was a BIG mare, which was rather intimidating, but her behavior was awesome - she was so calm and gentle that their kids had outgrown her and were ready for more challenging mounts. I, on the other hand, was looking for a horse I could relax with. Of course she's not perfect (although great with people, she's a real witch to other horses - very much the BOSS MARE - and it gets worse when she's pregnant...) but she is a joy to ride and I no longer suffer after every trail ride. I wouldn't hesitate to put anyone on her and feel assured of their safety - no matter their age or lack of experience. Randy has peace of mind as well, no longer worrying every time I ride. And if you haven't guessed by now, the mare is a registered PAINT - in fact, although her registered name is Merit's Top Hand, she's been called "Paint Mare" for so long that's what she answers to.

During this same time period, another portion of the story unfolded. About the time we got married, we had several friends expecting foals. My daughters and I had "baby fever" and 3 geldings... Randy didn't say a word to us but began watching the paper and one day said to me "let's go look at something" - which turned out to be a 2-week old dun filly and her half-starved, wild Indian pony mother. We loved raising a baby and gained a lot of experience rehabilitating, calming and training the mare. As babies do, the filly grew up, and at that time we didn't have enough land to keep all the horses. The filly became a 4-H project for a young girl and the mare was sold as a trail horse. But the "baby fever" remained... and one day Randy once again said "let's go look at something" - which this time turned out to be a miniature pinto mare and her pinto filly (see Jasmine and Lily on the PR Group page). Even when these babies grow up, they are still small enough to satisfy our "baby fever" - and they were "painted" too.

When it came time to name our ranch, we spent days mulling over different choices and I was on the verge of giving up when the perfect choice just popped into my mind - a way to honor my husband and acknowledge his efforts to make my dreams come true. We designed our brand, using a mirror P to denote Painted Promise, and added a rafter - a shelter - to represent the rescue portion of our ranch. Randy continues to listen to what I say - and even what I don't say - and does his best to make things happen for me. There's a lot in my past that wasn't pleasant but God blessed me with three wonderful daughters and, just when I had decided I would be better off alone, He sent a man into my life who was exactly what I needed. We give thanks to God for bringing us together and for allowing us to make a difference in the lives of some of His beautiful creatures

my husband said that his mom always wanted to call this place 'Foys Rolling Hills' so that is how ours came about. We add 'Fancy' to the names of all the horses born here because when we bought our first mini mare, she had a $10 name and we thought it was too long, so we called (and still do) her 'Fancy'. So in honor of our first 'Fancy', we are the 'Home of Foy's Facies'.

Ours is LeMar Miniatures which was chosen by hubby for part of his name, Les and part of mine, Mary.

How did you come to choose the name for your farm or ranch? Are you happy with it now that you use it or do you wish you chose a different name?

It looks like we may be on our way to owning 40 acres and I am wanting to come up with a unique/clever name for our farm. It will have a mixture of animals, not just one certain breed/type. I see some really interesting names around this forum and would love to know the history on them if you would like to share!

We came up with our farm name before we ever moved to the country!!!

We were living in the hustle and bustle of Dallas, and wanted to move to have a simple life. Didn't want anything fancy, looking for a slow pace, and a place to really call home. When we finally found our house six years later.... we knew we had found the simple life, hence "The Simple Life Farm". We are now waiting for the "simple" part to start

Mine is Mini Whinny Farm. Chose it just to go along with my domain name www.miniwhinny.com :bgrin

The area where we live is much windier than the area where Rod & I both grew up. We noticed a significant difference when we moved here. When we moved to our acreage, there was a meadow out back where the deer liked to come and graze and rest at night. (Now that meadow is our pasture for our minis.) We put the ideas together and came up with Meadowind.

I have always collected ladybug's, my whole life. I believe they bring you good luck and thought it was a perfect name for our 10 acre farm. And it works out that when people are out and about, if they see a ladybug, they often think of my little farm and my little horses
