Yes, we did keep him. He's four this year and will be getting gelded this summer. We just hadn't gotten to gelding him yet but are hoping to do that this year if we have to have the vet out for something else. He's a mini/shetland cross and isn't registered. I am going to start him this summer under saddle for my boys to ride.

I won't have my first homebred foals till next year, but I will always always always have my little boy who I bought as a 3 month old with his dam. There's just something special about that first training experience with a youngin. His first Big Boy Walk without momma, his first bath, first vet visit, first trick-or-treating on halloween....

He's 4 this year. I can pick up all four feet with a snap of my fingers, deworm him at liberty, lead him by his forlock or tail, etc.

And when our first homebred foals arrive next year, I'm definitely keeping one. Will be hard to let any of them go!

We have all of our babies, all fillies, except one (#3 baby girl) that went to live with my

farrier and his/my girlfriend.

I don't do well letting go. Once I held them and rocked them for weeks they became my 'kids'.

Originally, we wanted a single colt, maybe 2, just like their Dad...I'd have been delighted

with a pasture of geldings. 5 fillies later, I never knew I liked girls so much.

None of the fillies have been bred. I think about it but am not comfortable, yet,

with how I'd deal if something bad happened. We'd feel equally bad if something happened

to the Mom's but the babies are here by our choice - we didn't go out and buy them with a

thought of breeding them.

We have thought off and on of selling one or two but not sure anyone wants to go thru what

would be an awful qualifying process LOL

I think you oughtta teach a few of those wonderfully matched girls to drive!! They are so beautiful. Or Miss Zoey, you know I think she'd look awesome in harness.

Thank you all so much for your input and responses. Good

to know that I am not a solitary sentimental fool.

Our first foal born on my farm was not of my "breeding". Our first home bred foal "Taker", I really went back and forth on as he was just amazing and I was thrilled with him without the barn goggles on, but did sell him however he is staying here with me for the 2010 show season so it was a win win for me. I still get to show and promote my home bred colt...

Hey LOL Alex! I ran that by the girls this morning - they just shook their heads and said

they thought it'd cut into their pasture or primping time to much. Girls!
