Too hard to choose, probably my bible because I haven't read it but also love my Lonesome Dove.

Me too! I have a mean nasty rooster with a severe attitude problem, and I can't bring myself to give him a ticket to the after life. I feel horrible when I have to commit genicide on ants even.

I understand! I understand the need to do it, and I do eat some meat, but if I were responsible for killing and cleaning what I had to eat, I couldn't do it! I feel bad for setting mouse traps in our kitchen, even though I hate the sound of mice running around in the walls and running around where we eat. Ick!

We bought two of those metal 'live mouse' catchers. No dealing with dead mice or traps, and I'm sure they appreciate it. We drive them out into a secluded area and let them loose, then they're left to fend for themselves. I HATE spiders, but I even feel guilty when we kill them (they don't make it out of this house live). I do eat meat, but I won't be the person responsible for the animal dying. Had a friend who was going to butcher one of their turkeys for us, but I said no. Not to say I wouldn't kill to survive, but if given any way around it, I'm gonna milk the other options for as long as possible.

Great replies! I think the guide to edible plants is a good idea.
