What was your worst horse-related injury?

Wow! scary stories! I guess my worst (yet) isn't that bad! Got my left/dominate hand slammed against the fence and cut open like a ripe peach, bad last June. I saw tendons! before I slapped my other hand over it. I was holding Lexy's lead, she was tied to a post, The Vet gave her a shot...

a moving we will go.....(feel free to sing along)

I can sooo relate to what you are doing! There is always a ton of stuff you have to reconfigure, add and subtract to a new home. Our last move was the LAST for us also! I'm determined to die here! the cleaning, fixing, downsizing, moving all the little things, getting used to the new place...

    simple round pen ?

Cattle panels, you can bend them, or make an octagon shape. Wire tie together and use T posts to keep it there. I think Marty used to do this and she said they don't even need staked down.

    Meet RockE, new gelding

28 July My girls got a little brother ! Thanks to my good friend who just didn't have time for him and wanted him to go to a good home. He is TINY compared to my mares! I haven't measured him yet, or received/updated his AMHR papers, but he's about 5 yrs old and 30 inches tall. The...

    closings are now official scheduled

Great news! Wishing you many happy years in your new home. Keep us updated with pics when settled. Lexington has much to offer, we only get there about 1-2 times a year to go to the Horse Park, but love it.

OMG, OMG, OMG so much news

Great news about the house! And your herd! Those inspectors can pick your house apart! We had a contract and after the inspector came out lost the sale. They find things you never knew existed, or cared about! Anyway, I think the buyers just needed a reason to back out. So sorry about the...

    colic when in season?

My mare, Jelly Bean gets crampy when she cycles too. She doesn't roll, or sweat but stands stretched out and lays down a lot. It only lasts about a day. I just give her a dose of banemine and she's fine. It took me a while and marking on a calendar to figure it out.

    Tough 1 grazing muzzles

I have the ez breath ones. They are good for "bigger" minis. It fits Lexy great, but on Jelly bean it's a little large.

    mini weight chart

The chart in the mini info pages, under misc, says to measure from the Point of shoulder to Point of buttock. Heart girth is where a harness saddle would sit. I use all the formulas when I weigh, and get an average.

Still no news, but hope springs eternal

Keeping my fingers crossed for you on your house. I've had mine on the market almost 2 years, and lowered the price 3 times. It shows a lot, but no takers. 2 mortgages are no fun anymore :-( It's a shame, it's all stairs, or you could move here and keep your heard at my "new" place! At...

odd thing to find in feeder...=-O

My favorite little hen, Cloe loved to lay in the hay baskets for the horses. I put them in the stall on a 5ft shelf and she would fly up and lay an egg in one. She would start fussing if she couldn't get to the hay basket when she needed to lay an egg. Horses say "this hay tastes like...

    Rockhouds

I love rocks! Especially big flat ones. I pick them up all the time and use the big ones in my landscape. I even took my favorites from our old house when we moved. Probably got it from my Mom. She used to make my Dad stop and pick them up when we were on family trips. She collected them...

    Miniature Horse Keeping Questions

If it's only a small place that gets muddy, you could put pea gravel in that area. 4 inches deep would allow for loosing some in the mud, or put road textile down before the gravel. It will need to be replenished every 2 years or so depending on how much mud you have. My dry-lot has a muddy...

    Tail Trimming--How To?

I just brush the tail out, Wrap my hand around the tail going from top to about fetlock, grab & cut straight across. Brush and repeat for a real good cut. I like the straight cut, makes them look neat and full. If your horse flags it's tail a lot and you want a real show look, have someone...

    BONES in my straw!

I'd go with the pellets. Small ones don't have to be soaked where as most people soak the cubes. Wear a mask and gloves when you get down to the bottom of the bag, there is some dust at the end. I got mine from Tractor supply. 1 cup usually weighs 5 ounces so figure how much you want to feed...

    BONES in my straw!

I found a nasty arrowhead that could only come from my hay! The claw & razor kind. I actually found it in the stall after the horses finished the hay. I'm so glad no one stepped or laid on it! Freaked me out!

    Dogs and driving

Good job Ranger! And you! I don't know if he would tolerate it, but maybe you could get a doggy seatbelt for the dog, or clip his harness to a strap attached around the seat? Just let him off when in a safe area.

    How much BOSS

1/2 cup would be fine. That's what I used to give before mine got too fat. I've heard some people even give 1 full cup to their minis.
