    group stall/ run in shed

If they all eat together nicely then a manger would be fine. I've found that if you don't want to waste hay, you have to weigh it according to each horses needs and feed several times a day. That way they clean it all up before the next feeding.

    group stall/ run in shed

I do it both ways. If using piles of hay (on mats) have 1 ro 2 more pile than minis. Or spread it in a circle. I use slow feed nets at night, one in each corner so they don't fight over it.

    special brush?

I've used all the above mentioned tools. What really works for the hairiest ones is a hacksaw blade! It's a lot like a shedding tool, but way cheaper.

    Dremel tool question

I just peel them off. After bath or soften them up with oil or water and they come off easy.

Need to Vent. Many colics, no answers

Cayuse, I hope to get him on/back to his regular feed at some point, which includes hay pellets. I need to find the simethicone in a form he can take. He hates mint flavors and spits them out. I'll look into infant liquid I can syringe into him.

Need to Vent. Many colics, no answers

Rock E is doing fine. Still at Rood & Riddle. Everybody loves him. The Vet that did the surgery thinks he may not be ready 'till Tues. They are doing more blood tests today. I really can't get much info from the surgery Vet. I'll have to wait 'till his primary gets back Mon. :-( I already...

Need to Vent. Many colics, no answers

Rock E UPDATE: Well, after a very hard time since Nov 18, We still have no real answers. His colic episodes became more frequent (every 10 days) with the two in Feb being real bad. Rood&Riddle got their CT machine up, and I made an appointment for 11 Mar. He started another colic as I was...

Need to Vent. Many colics, no answers

His feed consists of local mixed grass hay (this year grown next door, same as our pasture), weighed for his size split up into 4 feedings a day, 2/3C timothy pellets, Remission and ground flax 1Xaday, pasture 1-1.5 hr a day depending on season. I have added more probiotics lately, the...

Need to Vent. Many colics, no answers

I am at my wits end. My little RockE (8yo geld) is having regular bouts of colic. Mild to severe. Have had many vets out. He's been tubed and oiled a couple of times. Had one impaction in 2016 (that probably started it all). We have even taken him 100 mi to Rood & Riddle in Lexington KY...

Do they get an all you can eat buffet, or do you limit their intake? :)

How much hay should be reduced for each hour of turnout time?

I read somewhere that a horse can eat about 3/4 lb of pasture in a hour. I don't think dead pasture has the same nutrition as hay though. When I turn mine out I reduce their hay by about 3/4 per hour they are out. My pasture never gets all brown though, there is always green grass in there...

Barn & Bed Down Photos! Where do your horses live?

Our barn is a converted tractor barn. All raw board surfaces are "chew proof". It's 16X24, with a 8X8 new addition of separation stall we call the Taj Ma'Stall. A large pea gravel dry lot leads to the pasture.

Anyone elses minis do this "Just Because"

I have two that love to stand on a block.  Jelly Bean and Rock E.  It is one of their tricks.  Without prompting I've seen them stand for hours, even dozing.  I think they like the view from higher up.    I recently took the wood block away because they kept chewing on it and it was no longer...

    Rimadyl for dogs

Can dogs take tums?  He may like the chewable fruit flavors, and easier to give than liquid.  I give my gelding the Walmart version to help keep ulcers away.  He loves them.

    Lost two front teeth- yearling

Tough one.  Looking at my old pics I found one of Jelly Bean with a missing teeth smile.  Missing were the 2nd incisors.  I it was taken in 2007.  That would have made her 4 at the time.  I think the front incisors came out at least a year before that.   I hope you don't have to wait that...

    CYROMAZINE fly product

I am interested to know also.  My mini mule gets flies bad even with consistent fly spray. I want a fly spray that kills them on contact  when they land!
