    Scaly hooves

Wow, that is interesting. Don't horses just make you crazy? I'd take some sand paper or a sanding block and whisk over one to see if it is something on the surface, like a fungus, or if it is nutritional.

    Billy

He has only lost 5#. Very disappointing as I have been trying so hard. He has only been on the timothy cubes for a week; hopefully after a month I will see more loss. Our son was here and he set me up on the Strava app to track our walking. Today we did 2.11 miles and averaged 2.9 mph and a...

    Billy

I'm taking Billy to be weighed this evening. My sister works at a local vet and I am going after hours to use the animal scale indoors. They used to let me weigh him there, but then moved the scale into an examination room, so I haven't like to ask. But we won't be in anyone's way.

    Triple Crown Safe Starch Forage

Yes, he is fine now. I think I remember by account got locked one time.

    tractor drive

Yes. It's also a route I like to drive my horses. But not sure Billy is up to it anymore, as it is about 5 miles. So quiet. And the roadside is not sprayed or mowed. So it is all natural native prairie growth. And so quiet and peaceful.

    tractor drive

I went out for a nice drive on a road I like to look at wild flowers. The eryngo was blooming like crazy--it was thick on the roadside. Some nice grasses, but it's been rather dry to get a good show. Stopped on the way home at my neighbor's. He picked up this model A at an auction yesterday.

    Triple Crown Safe Starch Forage

Picked up the cubes yesterday. Last night I gave him half cube and half hay, to help him transition. He gobbled the cubes right up, so it won't be a probably changing him to them.

    2024 Hours Driven

Billy out for about 55 minutes this morning. Nice and cool. I tried leaving him tied while hitching and attaching the sulky. It worked much better than having him stand untied to hitch. For some reason standing untied now makes him restless. We started off pretty well and I only had to...

    Gardening

Caught 3 mice so far and a rat. Had to replant the beets as there were only little red stems sticking up. Hopefully we can control the rodents and get a crop. Pepper, our RAT terrier, is hopeless at controlling the rodents as she is scared of them. Worked at thinning the 4 o'clocks so other...

    Toxic horse feed

Kendra Santos has researched all the companies that supply horse feed, to see if any are possible sources of toxic feed. It was interesting to read the list. If you search her name, on FB I think, you can find the list.

Pooh. I called today to enquire about my timothy cube order. Glad I did because it was NOT ordered. The guy I talked to this time said it would be in on Saturday.

    Gardening

Grrrrr! I went out this morning to mist my baby plants and that damned mouse had eaten almost all the lettuce plants. I thought it was so cute when I saw it in my watering can. Now I'm mad. Traps will be set.

    2024 Hours Driven

How does one keep from spoiling a horse? He's never been a relaxing driving horse, but after being cosseted while foot-sore, he seems to be more difficult. I cannot tell the difference in behavior between being spoiled and being in pain. The weather is cool at the moment, so I will try to...

    2024 Hours Driven

Today, September 1, Billy and I went out for the first time in about a month. He acted as though he had never been driven in his life. Half-rearing with the whites of his eyes showing. We finally got on our way, but I ground drove him for about 1/4 mile before he would settle down. I...

    Gourd head dolls

There are drinking gourds still in use at well over 100 years old. The gourds are incredibly durable. Yes, they are dried. They take about a year to dry. They are sort of like working with wood--sawing, sanding, drilling.

    Toxic horse feed

Sounds as though the feed company is owning up to the responsibility.

    Gourd head dolls

I like to work with gourds. One day I saw the round tops as a head. My gourds are birdhouse gourds, so they do not have a good "neck". My sister happened to have one with a nice long neck that she was purging. Long necks work better than no neck, I think! Anyway, here are two gourd head...

    Toxic horse feed

I heard the feed came from Kansas city. It was not milled locally. I have not heard any recent news.
