    Show me your ideal broodmare

Which mare? The one that is mostly red or the one driving?

    Show me your ideal broodmare

Please bear in mind- if there are faults in your mare, breeding to a stallion without those faults may or may not fix those, so take your time and find the nicest mare with the least faults you can afford! I also like a mare with 'substance' - I like the driving power that comes with that, as I...

Oh my, what have we gotten ourselves in to? :)

Greetings! I do not recommend a stallion for any beginner, especially one with special needs. Unless the horse is going to be gelded, there are rules regarding youth showing stallions on any circuit- 4H, open shows, breed shows, etc.... I met a young lady with Downs Syndrome at our spring...

    Feeding The Senior Horse

I fed an old horse, who didnt have many teeth, and could not eat hay due to choking, the Purina Equine Sr. It's a complete feed, VERY easy to chew- the pellets are tiny also- and the horse just bloomed and did fantasticly on this feed.

    Bad tooth on Wishbone

My neighbors horse had a hole in the face due to a tooth problem- it happened because of the tooth, not because someone put it there. Now with your problem tooth gone, it should heal. I would NOT feed just grain. That is not a good or complete feed for a horse, and they really dont need it...

    Fat or pregnant

Oops, well see that you got the news back that your mare is pregnant. She needs to be seperated. Also, she does not need 'extra feed' until her last trimester, according to what many vets have told me, or she will get too fat, which is not good either. Read anything and everything you can on...

    Fat or pregnant

If you are feeding good quality alfalfa hay, do NOT feed a whole flake for a Mini. Mine are on dry lots (no such thing as pasture here in the desert) and mine get fed twice a day but a 'flake', depending on how much it weighs, will feed several Minis. A flake is what breaks off of the bale of...

    Horse Myths & Legends

The idea of using tobacco for wormer is an old remedy, long before effective wormers were created. I doubt that it actually has any benefit to doing what people think it did- or certainly wasn't like the choices we have today. But they also didnt have anything to choose from back then either...

    AMHA vs AMHR???

I love that all mine are double registered as it gives you 'double the fun' when showing!!

    AMHA vs AMHR???

We dont have R shows here any more... but I show both. Slightly different rules may apply but all my horses are double registered and I must say I dont have a preference. R fees and things are somewhat cheaper.

Brand spankin new to minis! Advice?

Welcome from sunny Arizona! I have to agree... I would never have horses some place where no one was there, and where they were not checking on at least twice a day. I could make a huge horror list of things that could happen. Yes, Minis also do get fat, which is not good for other health...

    What stallion behavior is acceptable?

If he is well behaved while it's 'work time', whether it's being groomed or driving or anything else- that is acceptable. It is absolutely natural to be protective and defensive in the 'wild' state of being on pasture and when there are mares around. He is doing what stallions do. I have...

    Filly-Bubble Butt??? Concern?

A neighbor had a horse that had a Caslick's done more than once and almost died in a very short time frame from infection. They thought they had her cleaned out and did another- same issue. She got so sick so fast it was awful. I know of another that did die from an internal infection from...

    Roan sock?

I have had two horses with that weird kind of sock too over the decades. Both were Appaloosas- one full sized and one Mini.

can someone help me with this?

I use webs.com It is VERY easy and I can update it myself. It does have limitations if you want to get real fancy with stuff but I like being able to do my own and it's free- or you can pay for a cheap subscription that offers a bit more. Very cost effective.

Hello!! Didnt you have the lovely website with all the historical pics on there?! Sounds like you are on a new adventure but welcome back and glad you are hanging around!

    Showing stallions

They just need to know that both of them are there. AMHA, a form is signed by your vet saying the horse has both. A copy of that form gets submitted with any future show entries.
