Do you know what color these horses are?

Don't toss your links Dona. ASD is very much associated with the silver dapple gene. What I have read that is interesting is how ASD doesn't always affect the vision as previously suspected. There still is concern because some cases of ASD are severe and lead to cysts etc..........I have a...

    Welsh Pony

The welsh are excellent riding ponies. Which section is this gelding.......A,B,C,D......I would guess it is section A or B.........they are typically long lived and quite healthy, they can be air ferns so keeping off excess weight can be challenging. They also excell in driving. AND they are...

    I need help with

Usually females will rule the roost in a pack. The pregnant part could also be causing more problems. And the possibility that they will never sort it out is something to consider. I live with an aussie and st. poodle who HATE each other. Supervised in the house with ME present they will...

Then the talk of closing the studbook should end if a miniature horse is anything under 34. I am sure there will be more under 34 specimens coming along for years that are worthy of being registered. Lock the height for shows at 34 not a centimeter over, fix the measuring issue, and allow PQ...

    AMHA Members: Breed or Height?

I'd like to see AMHA become a breed registry, that accepts the over horses as breeding stock. I would also like to see the breed have a definate goal set for type that is more specific. Requiring 34 and under for showing is fine but denying a horse papers when it is out of generations of AMHA...

Please dont get discouraged about showing etc

I'd say in a pinch nice jeans would be ok...but I usually see slacks. If I think I may be going in the ring I will wear slacks. If I really do not want to go in the ring....I wear sweats... I say go... show..... have fun....

Please dont get discouraged about showing etc

I don't breed and I don't show BUT I try to go to as many shows as possible it is a great place to see old friends, see lots of beeeutiful horses, lend a hand, and every once in a while be thrust into the ring :DOH! :DOH! I have spent much of my adult life behind the scenes at several types...

I completely agree. Either the miniature horse is a BREED or its not. If it is not then why all the DNA and PQ...who cares so long as it is under 34. And if it is then all DNA and PQ horses regardless of height ARE miniature horses. AMHA cannot have its cake and eat it too.....

Jody, Is there a way that Robin's original proposal could be reworked to address the other issues? or Would an entirely new proposal need to be written? As for the legitamicy of over horses, I agree that if AMHA wants to legitimize the REGISTRY they need to have a place for these horses...

So, you've got a dwarf, now what do you do?

There are documented cases of dwarfism in shetlands, welsh, and arabians. Welsh also have a higher frequency of hydracephalus (often found in conjunction with dwarfism). Another big environmental problem that used to cause alot of deformities in horses across the board was selenium deficiency.
