I haven't ever asked anything like this before - but I have a favor to ask! Can any of you who are able please treat yourself to a night at the movies this next weekend and go to see "THE MARTIAN CHILD" - opening Friday, November 2nd. It's important to me that you go on opening weekend if you can, to help the "numbers" when they talley up the weekend #1 movie, etc! (Of course if you can't go next weekend, just go when you can!)
The movie is about two very good friends of mine - David Gerrold and his adopted son Sean (Sean's name was Dennis when they first met, he changed it to Sean when he was legally adopted.) The movie is based on a book that David wrote (called "THE MARTIAN CHILD") which won several awards. David didn't do the screenplay but says it's pretty authentic in it's emotional feel and in the basic tenets of the story.
It stars John Cusack as David, with his real-life sister Joan Cusack as David's sister. The (added) neighbor girl is played by Amanda Peet, and with a cast like this how can you go wrong? Amanda's character is named "Harlee" - a play on the name of one of David's books, "WHEN HARLIE WAS ONE"... also the name of the first foal I ever bred (a suggestion from David) That'll let you know how long I've known David - as he's said, since "before dirt was invented"!
The movie site is here: http://www.martianchild.com/
I'd LOVE to know what you think of the movie after you see it! :bgrin
