Would like to make a point here...

You seem to have some of the same thoughts I have had. What is a miniature horse? The standard in AMHA is open to interpretation with no real defined "type". Even in breeds such as morgans or arabians or the welsh sections there are guidelines of type. All these breeds have interpretations...

Would like to make a point here...

Carol any chance you could post either pictures or links to some of the Arabians you work with? Arabians do not normally have a bulge. Their forehead is actually usually quite flat, it is the chisel of the nose bridge, the wide set expressive eyes, and the tapering muzzle with LARGE nostrils...

    First Time Home Buyer...

Two suggestions I can offer. First usually FSBO is done to avoid paying the commission fees. I know in some areas you can find realtors who will take FSBO's through the proccess for a reduced commission or flat fee paid by the buyer. Second there are real estate attorneys often connected to...

    my rotweiller killed a deer

Obviously we will have to agree (or not) to disagree. I will not believe that a coursing breed that kills a cat or rabbit in its yard or in the field for that matter is a dangerous dog. I know far too many that are wonderful dogs that also course hares. And I will never think that a LGD that...

Melody is off of her feed this morning:(

I think based on the fever and the previous snot and now the colicky symptoms you definately have some crud....could be flu, could be strangles. I'd be getting the vet out to determine what and a course of treatment. Strangles is extremely contagious and can be picked up on shoes tires...

Spaying a Mare: have you ever done it

My first horse was a saddlebred mare who was spayed due to post foaling compications with infection leading to founder. I owned her back in the mid 80's and she had been spayed most of her life so the surgery had to have been done in the late 70's. She was the best horse I ever owned........I...

That thought crossed my mind as well. And it sure wasn't your pitbull....LOL..he just said "oh HI" wag wag wag :bgrin :bgrin I also do NOT defend anyone who lets their dogs roam free to do what they will. But I do defend a dog doing a job on it's own property.

    What is a Toboggan?

Yep Tagalong is correct that is a toboggan and it looks very much like the one my neighbors father was using and broke his ankle hitting a stump :bgrin :bgrin :bgrin those things don't steer real well :

    my rotweiller killed a deer

My question is what breed was this dog? And chinchillas rarely are a good choice of pet to be left in a cage where a dog could gain access. Whenever I have had caged pets along with dogs and cats, all animals could be kept safely away from each other if I am gone, crates, seperate rooms...

    Nasal discharge, lethargic mare

Check the temp, strangles usually involves very high temps. Another possibility is an impacted tooth/retained caps, my mare had periodic snots for a year, my vet found nothing and didn't see any obvious reason, after several rounds of smz's, I managed to find an equine dentist who discovered...

    Interesting article

Hawaii has very strict rules to bring in dogs and other animals. And import rules vary from state to state, the general usda federal guidelines are pretty loose so if a state doesn't have their own regulations importing is quite easy. The screw worms are scary because that has an impact on...

    my rotweiller killed a deer

Jenn and Mininik I agree with both of you. And this is a good example of why "I" believe people seeking a dog need to do their homework and understand a breed's purpose. I also strongly support purebred dogs for this reason. I have a ST. Poodle who hunts birds this is a trait in the breed...

    my rotweiller killed a deer

You might want to check your state statutes. In some states there are regulations with regard to how these dogs are handled. As for him confusing the horses with deer, from what you described he was acting much like an LGD will and saw the deer as a threat to his property. This is a very fine...
